With Rick and Morty: The Anime coming to Adult Swim And Max, Warner Bros. Discovery has been starting to share more details about the highly anticipated spin-off series.
Earlier this week, Adult Swim shared a first-look preview of the anime, which showed a giant ship being blasted out of the sky and the alien population celebrating Morty as the hero. It was an interesting clip but didn't really provide any details about the series. All we've really known up until now is that Rick and Morty: The Anime features 10 episodes of original stories, some of which take inspiration from the main Rick and Morty cartoon.
However, during Warner Bros. Discovery's upfront presentation today, the company shared a press release highlighting the Network's line-up, including new programs and fan favorites. On the list was Rick and Morty: The Anime, which offered our first official description of the series.
The synopsis reads:
In Rick and Morty: The Anime, a new series from the world of “Rick and Morty,” Rick relaxes in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being.
Rick and Morty: The Anime stems from positive fan reception to the release of numerous short films that began to air on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block back in March 2020. A total of five short films have since been released, leading to Adult Swim ordering this 10-episode anime series.
Ricky and Morty: The Anime is directed by Takashi Sano and produced by Jason DeMarco of Adult Swim and Joseph Chou of Sola Entertainment. Animation production is being done by Telecom Animation Film with Sola Entertainment handling general production. The anime series stars Yōhei Tadano as Rick Sanchez and Keisuke Chiba as Morty Smith, reprising their roles from the Japanese dub of the original series. It was recently confirmed by Jason DeMarco, Senior Vice President, Anime and Action Series/Longform at Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, will also be getting English dubs.
Unfortunately, the press release didn't offer an exact release date for Ricky and Morty: The Anime, but it was previously said to be coming to Adult Swim and Max sometime this year. In the meantime, you can find all five of them on the Adult Swim YouTube page. They each run for about five to six minutes in length, so it's a quick watch in preparation for the upcoming series.
