Square Enix's Young Gangan has a new DanMachi comic on the calendar. The magazine's 19th issue said Friday that tawaketch will draw a manga of Fujino Omori and Suzuhito Yasuda's Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? novels, covering the Deep Floors arc, starting in the next issue on October 2.
That stretch is the part of the story sitting in the lowest reaches of the Dungeon. Omori's main novels are at 21 volumes. Volume 21 opened the run toward the endgame after the District arc closed in volume 20. The published copy for that book starts with a report that Loki Familia's expedition has failed, with Aiz Wallenstein and other members trapped on the 60th floor. The Deep Floors have come apart. A dungeon boss is gone. Something worse is loose below, and the people still down there need a rescue.
Readers who only watch the anime have already seen Bell Cranel and Ryuu Lion fall into the deep layers during season 4. Those episodes lived on the 37th floor and the White Palace. The novel material this manga is aimed at sits much farther down, past the safe point at floor 39 and into the gray ruin of the Giant's Graveyard and the rooms below it.
The franchise has been building that map since January 2013, when GA Bunko published the first novel after Omori won the 4th GA Bunko Award. Yasuda has been on character art from the start. The side series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria is at 16 volumes and follows Aiz and Loki Familia on a parallel track. Combined print for the books is over 20 million copies. It's no surprise Square Enix wants another comic team on the current arc.
Young Gangan is not new to this title. Kunieda drew the first main manga there from 2013 to 2018 across 10 volumes, then the serialization stopped in the War Game stretch. Taisei Yamachi picked the story back up as DanMachi II in 2019. That line is still running, with a seventh collected volume out July 24. Yen Press has been bringing both the Kunieda books and the Yamachi sequel into English, along with Takashi Yagi's long Sword Oratoria manga. The new tawaketch series is a separate Deep Floors project, not a rename of the book already in the same magazine.
Square Enix has also been feeding the wider catalog. Astrea Record, Omori's prequel about Ryuu and Astrea Familia seven years before Bell arrives, started as a 2020 third-anniversary event in the Memoria Freese mobile game. The light novels launched in October 2022 with art by kakage. Volume 3 shipped that December. Yen Press put the third English novel out in November 2024. Karu Yoneshiro began a manga of that prequel in Monthly Big Gangan on May 25, with a color opening, a cover spot, and a two-chapter debut.
The television side is moving on the same novel numbers. J.C.STAFF's fifth season ran 15 episodes from October 2024 to March 2025. A sixth season was confirmed on February 7 at the franchise's 10th anniversary event in Chiba. No air date came with that video. Season 6 is slated to draw from volume 21, which is the same Deep Floors disaster the new manga is being sold on.
Bell's story has not changed. He is the boy who came to Orario looking for a girl and a fight, joined Hestia's tiny familia, and kept chasing Aiz's back into a city full of gods on vacation and adventurers who treat the Dungeon like a job. The early books are dungeon crawls and familia politics. The later ones are expedition wipe reports and floors that swallow first-class adventurers.
Yen Press already has the novels, the main manga, Sword Oratoria, and Astrea Record in English. No North American publisher has been named for tawaketch's series. That usually waits until tankobon dates exist. October 2 is the next Young Gangan issue. Until then, the Deep Floors arc lives in volume 21, in the Sword Oratoria volumes that cross it, and in the season 6 announcement that has been sitting without a timeslot since February.
