Gachiakuta is finally coming back. Creator Kei Urana announced on X on October 15 that the manga will return from its hiatus on November 11, ending a break of more than three months in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine. Urana shared the news with a black-and-white illustration stamped with the words "NEXT CHAPTER 2026.11.11."

Weekly Shonen Magazine confirmed the exact issue in its own post the same day, and it came with an apology. The next-issue preview page printed in issue 46, which is on sale now, listed Gachiakuta by mistake, suggesting the series would be back in the very next issue. The magazine corrected it by writing "We are very sorry. Gachiakuta was listed in the preview, but this was a mistake. The series is scheduled to resume in issue 50 (on sale November 11). We hope you will look forward to it." Urana also reposted the correction on her own account.

Why Gachiakuta Went On Hiatus

The last new chapter of Gachiakuta ran in the combined 36th and 37th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, which shipped on August 5. Every issue of the magazine since then has carried a note on its website explaining that the series was on hiatus so that Urana could conduct research. Kodansha addressed the break again on September 8, saying it would announce the manga's return once a date had been decided.

That date is now set, and the November 11 issue will mark roughly 14 weeks without a new chapter. Breaks like this are fairly common for weekly manga, where creators are expected to turn in a full chapter every single week, and Gachiakuta's dense, detailed art takes a lot of work on its own.

The Story So Far

Urana launched Gachiakuta in Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022. Before that, she worked as an assistant to Atsushi Ohkubo on Fire Force. Hideyoshi Ando is credited for the graffiti design, which gives the series its signature street-art look on everything from the title logo to the weapons and backgrounds. Kodansha released the 19th compiled volume in Japan on July 16.

The story follows Rudo, a boy who lives in the slums of a floating town, where the rich throw their garbage off the edge and into the abyss below. When he is falsely accused of murder, his punishment is to be thrown off the edge along with the rest of the trash. On the surface, humanity's waste has bred vicious monsters, and if Rudo wants to find the truth and get revenge on the people who cast him down, he has to master a new power and join the Cleaners, a group that battles the giant trash beasts of the Pit.

Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga in English, and the 12th English volume came out in print and digitally on September 22. The series is rated 16+ and also runs in English on the K MANGA app.

The Anime And What Comes Next

The manga's TV anime adaptation premiered in Japan on July 6, 2025, on CBC, TBS, and 26 other channels, and ran for 24 episodes until December 22. Fumihiko Suganuma directed the anime at bones film, with series composition by Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga), character designs and chief animation direction by Satoshi Ishino, and music by Taku Iwasaki. Crunchyroll streams the series with an English dub in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS (excluding Russia and Belarus), and the Indian subcontinent.

A second season was announced at the end of the final episode in December 2025. The official anime channel released a First Look PV for Season 2 on July 28, after it had already screened at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles and the 25th Comic Exhibition in Taipei. No release date has been announced yet. Check out the First Look PV below:

The franchise has grown in other directions too. A stage play ran at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball in Tokyo from May 22 to 31 and at ROHM Theatre Kyoto from June 5 to 7, with Hikaru Imamaki playing Rudo. Com2uS is also developing a survival action RPG, which was revealed under the official title Gachiakuta: Breakout with its first gameplay trailer during the Xbox showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in September. The game is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Fans in New York can also pick up limited Gachiakuta T-shirts at Kodansha House NY right now, courtesy of Rule Geeks. Kodansha noted that stock is limited, so anyone who wants one will need to grab it soon.

Are you more excited to finally read the next chapter on November 11, or are you holding out for Season 2 of the anime?
