Gachiakuta is still not back for manga readers. Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine said so again. The official X account posted on September 8 that the hiatus continues and that a return date will go out when one exists.
The last new chapter ran in the combined 36th and 37th issue that shipped August 5. That was chapter 173. Chapter 174 has not appeared. Every magazine listing since then has carried the same line: the series is paused so author Kei Urana can conduct research. Weekly Shonen Magazine also apologized for the stretch of silence. The message thanked readers for sticking with the book and promised another post once serialization has a day. It did not name a week.
Research is the reason they told the press. Japanese magazine sites use that phrasing when a creator is gathering material for the next stretch, not when a chapter simply missed a shipping truck. Kodansha USA and K Manga relayed the same holding pattern to English readers.
This is not the first long gap in 2026. After chapter 162.5 on February 3, the manga sat out about seven weeks. That break landed during the Doll Festival arc. The current pause sits after that arc's close. Volume 19 arrived in Japan on July 16, so the tankobon line is still moving even while the magazine page is blank.
Urana launched Gachiakuta in Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022. Hideyoshi Ando is credited for graffiti design. The English edition comes from Kodansha USA. The story for it goes like this: Rudo lives in the slums of a floating city where the rich throw their garbage over the edge. He is framed for murder and dumped into the Pit with the trash. Down there the waste breeds monsters. He picks up a new power and joins the Cleaners, the people who fight those beasts, if he wants the truth and a way back up.
Studio Bones put that world on television in July 2025. The first season ran on CBC, TBS, and a large Japanese network group. Crunchyroll streams the show and an English dub across a wide international footprint. A second season is already announced. The anime kept moving while the magazine stalled. That split is the part readers feel. Season 2 will need pages. Those pages are not arriving on Tuesdays right now.
A research hold is how some creators protect the next arc instead of shipping thin chapters. Eiichiro Oda has used long research breaks. Other weekly titles do the same before a location or power set changes. Urana's official reason matches that habit. The magazine did not attach a health note to this specific pause.
What is missing is scope on what is coming next. No word on how many chapters are plotted. No word on whether the next stretch stays in the Pit or climbs. No word on whether Ando's graffiti work is part of the research trip. Until Kodansha posts a date, chapter 174 is a blank Tuesday.
For English readers the wait is the same. K Manga and the Kodansha USA volumes stop at what has already been collected. The Bones season is the current way to sit with Rudo and the Cleaners. It is not a substitute for the next magazine chapter.
