Hatsune Miku, everyone's favorite virtual singer, has added an unexpected stop on her global tour — Secret Lair.
Announced today, the new Magic: The Gathering collaboration with Hatsune Miku will see the digital superstar celebrated throughout the year. Four special card collections will arrive throughout 2024, each celebrating a season of the year, beginning with Spring's Secret Lair x Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar.
“Secret Lair lets us take the things fans already love about Magic: The Gathering and combine them with pop culture moments and amazing new artists,” said Mark Heggen, Vice President of Collectibles, Wizards of the Coast. “We're thrilled to team up with the global phenomenon that is Hatsune Miku to put on this year-long celebration for fans around the world.”
In the first of four amazing drops, Hatsune Miku brings her undeniable electricity to a set of cards featuring stunning art from Miku fans from around the world, including Jehan Choo, Justyna Dura, Mandy Jurgens, Dani Pendergast, Yuko Shimizu, and 出利/SYUTSURI.
Secret Lair x Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar will feature the following cards:
- 1x Shelter
- 1x Chandra’s Ignition as “Miku’s Spark”
- 1x Harmonize
- 1x Azusa, Lost but Seeking as “Miku, Lost but Singing”
- 1x Feather, the Redeemed as “Miku, the Renowned”
- 1x Inspiring Vantage
Pre-orders for Secret Lair x Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar will begin on May 13, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time,e exclusively on the Secret Lair website. It will cost $29.99 for Non-foil and $39.99 for Foil. Both foil and non-foil drops are available in English as well as Japanese language versions.
Hatsune Miku is technically a music software developed by Cryptom Future Media, Inc. that allows people to make their computer sing. Over time, Hatsune Miku has evolved into a cultural phenomenon with the mascot character performing live virtual concerts onstage as an animated projection.
Hatsune Miku can be found in other forms of media with her popularity spawning a series of rhythm video games, manga and anime, and merchandise. And now, she is coming to what is arguably one of the biggest collectible trading card games.
Secret Lair is a "sub-brand" of Magic: The Gathering that groups cards into small collectible pseudo-sets referred to as "drops." These drops typically feature unique themes or alternative art styles.
