When it comes to DC Villains, there's perhaps none more iconic and recognizable than the Joker. But in Warner Bros. Japan's upcoming anime Suicide Squad Isekai, the Clown Prince of Crime has much more stylized look to him, which makes sense considering the material.

Warner Bros. Japan released a new trailer for Suicide Squad Isekai, which serves as a short intro to The Joker. "Gotham City’s Clown Prince of Crime. He’s the most unpredictable Super-Villain who brings chaos and madness with his utterly deranged thinking," the studio describes. "Harley affectionately calls him "Puddin'."

Despite his different look, he's still bringing all the chaotic, twisted energy we're used to seeing from the character. Suicide Squad Isekai may throw some unique twists our way, but it seems that the Joker's origins with Harley Quinn remain similar to other works. Check out the quick video below.

Although today's trailer highlights the Joker,  Suicide Squad Isekai focuses mostly on Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark who are assembled by Amanda Waller and sent to an otherworldly fantasy realm filled with swords, magic, orcs, dragons, and more.

An official trailer released a couple of months ago provides more context to the series, which is set to debut sometime this year.

The official synopsis for Suicide Squad Isekai reads:

In the crime-ridden Gotham city, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark. These DC Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an “ISEKAI”!

Harley and others go on a rampage after arriving in ISEKAI but are captured by the Kingdom's soldiers and sent to prison. They only have 72 hours before the bomb on their neck explodes. The deadline is fast approaching. After negotiations with Queen Aldora, the condition for liberation was the conquest of the hostile Imperial army. They have no choice but to throw themselves head-first into the front line of battle.

They run; they die. They lose; they die. With their lives on the line, can Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad survive in ISEKAI? Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure! Let the party begin!

Produced by Wit Studio and printed by Warner Bros. Japan, Suicide Squad Isekai is an anime television series based on the Suicide Squad team from the comics by DC Comics. It's directed by Eri Osada, with the series composition and the screenplay by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara.

Suicide Squad Isekai will premiere this July in Japan on Tokyo MX and BS11. The Japanese cast stars Yuichiro Umehara as The Joker and Anna Nagase as Harley Quinn. The series is expected to receive an English dub after the anime wraps airing, but none of the voice cast has been revealed yet.
