Champion RED is closing two series on the same day. The November issue of Akita Publishing's magazine said Kenji Saitō and Nobuyuki Ueda's Saint Seiya: Dark Wing (Saint Seiya: Meiōiden – Dark Wing) and Yousuke Takahashi and Mimori's Garagarapon will both finish in the January 2027 issue, on sale November 19.
That is six years of Dark Wing and a little over three years of Garagarapon. The magazine is dating the book January while shipping it in November, the usual calendar trick. The chapters still have two months of runway.
Dark Wing started in Monthly Champion RED in December 2020. Volume 8 shipped December 19. Titan publishes the English edition and put volume 1 out on September 16, 2025. Titan's pitch is the one English readers have been buying.
Shōichirō was a regular high school student. After an ambush on a school trip, he and his classmates drop into the land of the dead. He wakes up as Wyvern, one of Hades' Judges of the Underworld, lined up against Athena's camp in a war that does not stop at the grave. Cattleya, Athena reborn, is on the living side. Hades is already moving. The book sells a conspiracy under the holy war.
Saitō is also the writer of Trinity Seven. Ueda has been on the art since issue one. The series sits in Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya world without being a remake of Seiya's original run. Kurumada serialized that manga from 1986 to 1990. It spun off TV anime, OVAs, films, and a pile of other manga. Viz Media released the original books in English as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. Toei Animation's series hit the West first as ADV's Knights of the Zodiac dub, then uncut as Saint Seiya. New Video Group later put it on DVD.
Dark Wing is the Hades-side school-trip version. Readers who only know cloths, Pegasus, and Sanctuary get a protagonist already wearing a Specter Surplice. The last chapters have been circling Gold Saints, a Demiurge descent, and whatever conspiracy Titan flagged on the flap. The magazine did not print a plot synopsis for the finale. November 19 is the date, not a spoiler sheet.
Garagarapon is the other cancellation in the same table of contents. Takahashi and Mimori launched it in Champion RED in November 2023. Volume 2 shipped January 20. Tokyopop licensed it at Anime NYC in August for a 2027 English release, in a batch of seven new titles.
Tokyopop's summary is the cleanest English description on the shelf. People's imaginations take shape in the real world. Two government officials, Daichi Hongou and Hisui Tenma, spend their days cleaning up the collisions between daydreams, idle thoughts, and actual streets. That is a very different Champion RED page from a Wyvern Judge punching a Saint.
Takahashi has been in this business longer than most of the magazine's readers have been alive. He launched the mystery manga Mugen Shinshi in Asahi Sonorama's Manga Shonen in 1981. That book grew spinoff manga and novels, the Mugen Shinshi: Bōken Katsugeki Hen OVA, and a live-action film in May 2021. Garagarapon is a later-career magazine run, not a debut. Ending at two collected volumes means the English edition Tokyopop announced will likely be a short series unless extra chapters land in the last issues.
English Dark Wing readers are mid-run. Titan started last September. The Japanese ending will arrive while those translations are still catching up, which is how most licensed spinoffs die on a delay. Garagarapon readers outside Japan do not even have volume 1 yet. Tokyopop's 2027 window means the whole series may be complete before the first English book hits.
