Yesterday was a big day for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners fans. Not only did the second season premiere on Netflix, but WeirdCo also announced that the original series is getting its own set in the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game. Titled Edgerunners: Burn Bright, the set arrives in Spring 2027.
The official Cyberpunk TCG account unveiled the set with a piece of key art that went straight for the heart (October 20th).
The image shows Lucy from behind, wearing David's yellow jacket as she walks toward what appears to be a launch platform, while the Burn Bright logo sits on top of a burnt, cratered moon. Paired with the caption "We're going to the moon, together," it is a clear nod to Lucy's dream of reaching the moon and the bittersweet ending of the first season.
Bringing TRIGGER's Night City To The Table
WeirdCo says the set will introduce iconic characters, weapons, cyberware, and scenes from the anime, which was created by CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER. Booster packs will feature artwork that captures the show's distinct visual style, presented across foil and textured treatments, along with a new chase rarity that has not been revealed yet.
A handful of card illustrations have already surfaced, and they pull straight from some of the show's most painful moments. Caught in the Crossfire depicts Gloria Martinez, David's mother, lying injured on the highway after the shootout in the very first episode, the event that sets David on his path to becoming an edgerunner. Another card, Story Ends Here, shows Arasaka's monstrous cyborg Adam Smasher standing in the wreckage of a battlefield. There is also Zhou, Maine's Answer, a Gear card based on the shotgun used by Maine, the leader of the crew David joins.
WeirdCo co-founder Elliot Cook said the anime gave the team a lot to work with. "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners provides us so many opportunities to evolve this game in meaningful ways, both mechanically and artistically, and we can't wait to share that with players," Cook said.
Edgerunners 2 Is Out Now
The timing of the reveal was no accident. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix yesterday (October 20th) as a 10-episode standalone season with a new story and cast, once again animated by TRIGGER in partnership with CD PROJEKT RED. The new season follows Weak, a washed-up legend once known as King, and D, a Snake Nation nomad netrunner hunting the killer who wiped out his clan.
Burn Bright is focused on characters from the original 2022 series, which was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and became one of Netflix's breakout anime hits, even sending players back to Cyberpunk 2077 in huge numbers after its release. Whether the new Edgerunners 2 cast will show up in a later set has not been mentioned.
The first season gave WeirdCo plenty of material to choose from. Its 10 episodes followed David Martinez as he went from a struggling Arasaka Academy student to a chromed-up edgerunner, alongside Lucy, Rebecca, Maine, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, and Falco. Many of those characters, along with their weapons and implants, are natural fits for a game built around crews of Legends and Units.
When And How To Get It
Edgerunners: Burn Bright is the first expansion for the Cyberpunk TCG, following the base set Welcome to Night City, which players around the world are just starting to try at Pre-release events. The new set hits hobby stores in Spring 2027, with Pre-release tournaments taking place one week before its retail launch. It will be available in English and French at launch, with Chinese support coming later.
WeirdCo plans to roll out more art and card reveals over the coming months through its social channels and the Edgerunner Open Regional tournament broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube.
