One Piece Day didn't end with a bang, it ended with two! Closing out today's celebration, was the announcement of two upcoming films: One Piece Film God Valley and One Piece Film Baad.
Both films are being released in Japan as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for the One Piece manga in 2027 and the anime in 2029. One Piece Film God Valley will release in Japanese theaters in Summer 2027, while One Piece Film Baad will premiere in 2029.
God Valley was first introduced in the manga in Chapter 957, "Ultimate," released in 2019. It's one of the most important historical locations/events in the entire story — an island where a massive incident took place 38 years before the current One Piece story, which led to the World Government later erasing the island from maps and hiding what happened.
We saw God Valley for the first time through Kuma's flashback in the Egghead arc, and learn the Celestial Dragons were holding their horrific Native Hunting Competition there. Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp
One Piece Film God Valley will adapt the flashback arc of the same name featured in the Elbaph Arc, which is currently airing. This is when the manga/anime finally expands on what happened at the island, giving us actual details of what went down when Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp joined forces to fight against the Rocks Pirates, led by Rocks D. Xebec.
Plot details for One Piece Film Baad were not shared, but we've still got some time before that one arrives.
Fans have been begging for a God Valley adaptation since 2019, and the fact we're now getting the movie treatment is huge. We're actually going to see Roger and Garp team up against the Rocks on the big screen.
Baad may still be a total mystery, but with it landing in 2029, it feels like Oda's got something bigger planned tying it into where the story's headed. Until then, all eyes remain on Elbaph and whatever trailers or teasers start trickling out between now and Summer 2027.
With the anime currently deep in the Elbaph Arc, these two films feel like the perfect way to celebrate 30 years of One Piece, past and future colliding.
