Pokemon Horizons is getting a Pokemon GO themed episode. The official anime account posted the preview on September 2 and locked the Japanese air date: Friday, September 18, at 6:55 p.m. on TV Tokyo. The installment is episode 150 of the current series. The title is "The World Expands, Let's GO Together!"
Professor Willow is in it. That is the Pokemon GO professor who sends trainers out on field research and has spent a decade talking through a phone screen. The preview puts him with Liko, Roy, Friede, and Captain Pikachu on actual fieldwork. PokeStops show up in the episode. Captain Pikachu spins one and gets the usual handful of Poke Balls and berries. A Kecleon sits on a stop the way it does in the app. Meltan, Willow's partner, tags along in the same package.
Friede's origin with Charmander is the other hook. The Rising Volt Tacklers head out on Willow's survey, and the conversation turns to how Friede met the Charizard that now wears his goggles. The flashback goes back to when Friede was a kid and the partner was still a Charmander. The promo cuts to that younger pair. For a show that has treated Friede as the grown professor on the Brave Olivine, that is the scene a lot of viewers have been waiting on.
The crossover runs both ways. Pokemon GO's "Pokemon Horizons: The Series Celebration Event" starts Wednesday, September 16, at 10 a.m. local time and ends Tuesday, September 22, at 8 p.m. The headliner is Charmander wearing Friede's goggles. It can show up in the wild, from Field Research, on a regular Lure Module, or through the event GO Pass. Twenty-five Charmander Candy turns it into Charmeleon with the same goggles. One hundred more Candy turns that into Charizard, still wearing them. Shiny versions and Special Background encounters are in the pool.
Captain Pikachu comes back in the app for the same week. One-star raids feature Pikachu in Cap's hat. Three-star raids include the goggles Charizard plus Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval, the Paldea starters that Horizons has been living with since Liko and Roy started their journey. GO Snapshot can drop Liko's crew and their Pokemon into AR photos during the event. A GO Pass and GO Pass Deluxe sit on the same calendar if you want the milestone bonuses, extra candy, longer lures, and stardust bumps the event is selling.
It's no surprise the costume Charmander is the merch beat. Friede's goggles are the easiest Horizons silhouette to read in a park at night. Evolving the line and keeping the accessory is the same trick GO uses every time an anime outfit needs to survive the candy grind.
This is not the first time Horizons has traded characters with a spinoff app this year. In August the series did a Pokemon Sleep week. Professor Neroli crossed into the anime, voiced by Natsuki Hanae, while Captain Pikachu and a batch of Horizons Pokemon showed up in Sleep. The GO episode is a bigger swing because Willow has been the face of the live-service game since 2016 and had never appeared in the weekly show.
Horizons replaced the Ash Ketchum era in 2023 with Liko and Roy as dual leads. Friede and Captain Pikachu run the airship around them. The series pulled in Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet, then kept adding game crossovers as the Wonder Voyage stretch moved. Netflix has the English seasons in the United States, with Season 3, Rising Hope, added on January 6. BBC iPlayer carries the same season in the United Kingdom. The GO post points viewers at those streams while Japan is still on the Friday broadcast. The September 18 episode will hit other regions later. Some prefectures already run the Japanese airing on a different clock, which is why the staff post flagged that the 18th date can shift locally.
Pokemon GO turned 10 years old this summer. Willow's first anime outing arriving on episode 150 is tidy branding more than a coincidence. The app still lives on spinning stops, catching in the street, and dressing starter lines in show costumes. Putting those stops inside Horizons is the joke landing in both directions. The Kecleon gag only works if you have spent years tapping a stop that looked empty.
The episode itself is framed as research, not a tournament. Liko's group goes into the field with Willow, works the survey, and hears Friede's story while they do it. Navi, the Lumiose girl who has been around the current arc, is in the wider promo package. A Ditto tied to an airship sighting is part of the same image set. The plot the staff actually sold is Willow plus the Charmander meeting.
For players, the week is simple. Watch Friday in Japan if you can. Hunt goggles Charmander from the 16th. Evolve it if you want the Charizard that matches the flashback. Raid the hat Pikachu and the Paldea trio if that is your box. The show side is the one that will linger. Friede has been the Rising Volt Tacklers' adult in the room. Seeing him as the kid who found that Charmander is the piece Horizons could not get from a raid hour.
