Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story has a month locked in for it's anime debut. The main trailer and first key visual landed Monday with a January 2027 broadcast on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and Yomiuri TV. Crunchyroll will stream it worldwide except Asia. Six more voices joined Yume Miyamoto as Red Riding Hood and Akira Sekine as Pinocchio.
The Japanese title is Akazukin, Tabi no Tochu de Shitai to Deau. The story begins when Little Red Riding Hood meets a corpse on the road. She lives on the edge of town. Something forces her onto a journey. Incidents keep finding her. She solves them because she is curious and because the plans are sloppy enough to pick apart. The line the promo keeps returning to is her asking why the criminal plan is so messy. Fairy-tale faces, detective problems. Check out the trailer and visual poster below:
Takuya Sato is Jill. Atsushi Tamaru is Antonio. Motoko Kumai is Rodrigo. Kotaro Nishiyama is Paolo. Sakiko Uran is Thumbelina. Ryoko Shiraishi narrates. Pinocchio was already locked with Sekine. Thumbelina is the other storybook name on the new sheet. The rest read as the town and the road, not the hood.
Itsuro Kawasaki writes, directs, and directs the sound at BENTEN Film. His recent credits include Baban Baban Ban Vampire. Character designs are Manami Minakata and Yuko Yahiro. Art direction is Izumi Hoki and Hiroshi Kato. Color setting is Tomoe Yoshimura. Photography composition is Rieko Koike. Editing is Daisuke Hiraki. Main animators are Ryota Tamura, Satoru Kiyomaru, Shunsuke Masuda, and Yasuhiro Iwabuchi. Prop design is Jazzline Monteron. Trick design is Yoshinori Iwanaga. Music is Jun Ichikawa, produced at Pony Canyon. No opening or ending theme was named with the trailer.
Aito Aoyagi wrote the novel. Futabasha published it in August 2020. Tanakanoka started a manga in Monthly Action in January 2023. The magazine shut in February 2024. The comic moved to Web Action in April 2024 and ended at four volumes in June 2025. A live-action film streamed on Netflix in 2023, with Kanna Hashimoto as Red Riding Hood. The anime is the third format, and the first one aimed at a weekly broadcast instead of a movie window.
The August announcement put the show in 2027 with a teaser and the two leads. October's trailer is the one that names the month and the channels. Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and Yomiuri TV is a standard late-night cluster, not a primetime fairy-tale slot. Crunchyroll's exclusion of Asia is the usual split when a Japanese broadcaster and a regional licensee already have the show. No day set in January yet. No episode count either so we will have to wait for more details.
The premise of the story is a travel mystery wearing a hood. She is not staying in the grandmother's house. The corpse is on the road, the cases keep arriving, and Pinocchio is the companion already cast. Thumbelina arriving with the main trailer suggests the storybook cast widens as the journey does, which matches a novel that treats the fairy tale as the town she walks through rather than the plot she is stuck inside. The Netflix film already proved the hook works as a movie. A January cour has to prove it works as a weekly anime.
