The Saint Seiya franchise has been one of Japan's most iconic and long-lasting superhero stories ever to be produced and was created by Masami Kurumada and released in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 1986. Since then, the series has grown to include multiple manga spin-offs and an amazing anime with various spin-offs and reimaginings.
Characters from the series have even been included as playable characters in the recently released title, Jump Force, a fighting game by Bandai Namco Entertainment. While the show has maintained its popularity, attention has never been diverted from the manga that inspired it, and that is why a brand new series has been announced to come next month!
Confirmed in a brand new issue of Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine, the new manga series titled Saint Seiya Meiо̄iden Dark Wing will follow a young boy who finds himself in the land of the dead after an accident. The series will be written and illustrated by Kenji Saito and Shinsu Ueda and has also been revealed to have full-color opening pages!
There is no word yet on how much this series will tie to the initial Saint Seiya characters but exploring the furthest reaches of the series is always welcome. We would love to hear your thoughts on the announcement in the comments below!
The story will center on an ordinary high school boy. After a certain incident, he wakes up in the land of the dead.
Saint Seiya Meiо̄iden Dark Wing will release on Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine on December 19th!
