Kimizuka's English voice is back on the case. Crunchyroll has revealed the English dub cast and crew for the second season of The Detective Is Already Dead, and the first dubbed episode began streaming yesterday.
Crunchyroll announced the dub on Monday, confirming that several of the voices fans heard in the first season are returning to their roles.
The English Dub Cast
The English cast for the first episode of Season 2 includes:
- Austin Tindle as Kimizuka
- Xanthe Huynh as Siesta and Noches
- Arryn Zech as Natsunagi
- Megan Shipman as Char
- Jamie Marchi as Hel
- Jad Saxton as Saikawa
- Meg McClain and Corey Pettit as Female Students
Austin Tindle, Xanthe Huynh, Arryn Zech, Megan Shipman and Jad Saxton all voiced the same characters in the first season's English dub, which Funimation produced back in 2021. That continuity should be good news for dub fans, especially with Huynh pulling double duty as both Siesta and Noches this time around.
Behind The Microphone
The dub is being produced by Crunchyroll's in-house studio, with Jason Lord serving as voice director. The full crew for the first episode includes:
- Studio Producers: Justin Cook, Michael Harcourt and Nathanael Harrison
- Producer: Susie Nixon
- Adaptation Supervisor: Jarrod Greene
- Adaptation: Heather Walker
- Adaptation Prep: Stevie Rae Krieger
- Voice Director: Jason Lord
- Assistant Voice Director: Ryan Negron
- Talent Coordination: Tara A. Williams and Brittni Hurley
- Engineering Managers: Gino Palencia and Brandon Peters
- Engineer: August Cline
- Mixer: Rickey Watkins
A Long Wait For Season 2
Season 2 has been a long time coming. The sequel was first announced in July 2022, less than a year after the first season wrapped up. Kadokawa originally planned for it to air in July of this year before pushing the premiere back to October. The new season finally debuted in Japan on October 7th, and Crunchyroll has been streaming it with subtitles as it airs.
The main creative team is back. Manabu Kurihara returns to direct at studio ENGI, Deko Akao is once again handling series composition, and Yosuke Ito returns as character designer. 40mP is composing the music and also wrote, composed and arranged both theme songs. Kome performs the opening theme, "Kono Shinzo ni Hanabata wo" (A Bouquet for This Heart), while Kagura Nana returns to perform the ending theme, "Hakuchumu" (Daydreams).
What Is The Detective Is Already Dead About?
The anime is based on the light novel series written by Nigoju and illustrated by Umibozu. The story follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a high schooler with a knack for getting dragged into trouble, who once served as the assistant to the brilliant detective Siesta. After Siesta's death, Kimizuka tries to return to a normal life, but he is soon pulled back into the world of mysteries and conspiracies she left behind, alongside Nagisa Natsunagi, the agent Charlotte and the idol Yui Saikawa.
The first season premiered in July 2021 with a one-hour special and ran for 12 episodes, mixing mystery and action with plenty of romantic comedy. Funimation streamed it at the time and later added the English dub.
Yen Press publishes the light novels in English. It has released 12 volumes so far, with Volume 12 arriving this past August, so readers who want to get ahead of the anime have plenty of material to dig into.
With the Japanese broadcast now a few weeks in, the English dub has some catching up to do, but dub fans no longer have to wait long to follow along with Kimizuka's latest cases.
