The Detective Is Already Dead put up a new season 2 key visual today, two days before the show starts. Japan airs it October 7. Crunchyroll has the stream. The art is the last still before episode 1, and the copy on it is the thesis the title already spent a season arguing with: her last will does not die.
The visual, posted with the episode 1 preview, centers Noches looking straight out, with the rest of the cast arranged so you can read the friction. Noches is the girl with Siesta's face. Saki Miyashita voices both. That double credit is the season 2 casting note that matters more than a new key visual usually does.
Episode 1 is titled "To See You Once More." The preview is not subtle. Kimihiko Kimizuka, Nagisa Natsunagi, Yui Saikawa, and Charlotte Arisaka Anderson are on the way to Siesta's grave when someone takes them. In the room where they are held, they are shown a recording Siesta left of the truth of her death. Then the detective who is already dead walks in dressed as a maid. That is the cold open the October 7 broadcast is selling. The visual is the still version of the same trick.
Manabu Kurihara directs again at ENGI. Deko Akao is series composition. Yosuke Ito designs the characters. Music on the season 2 sheet is 40mP and Yuyu. The cast around Miyashita is the season 1 group: Shin Nagai as Kimihiko, Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa, Kanon Takao as Yui, Saho Shirasu as Charlotte, Akari Komiyama as Mia Whitlock, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Scarlet.
The season was supposed to be July but it slipped back to October. A September visual marked five years since Kimihiko and Siesta were first on a case, which is the anime anniversary, not the novels. Season 1 aired in 2021. An April trailer already showed Noches and mentioned a Nintendo Switch game from Taito. Monday's art is the one timed to the actual premiere, after the delay ate the summer slot.
Nigoju writes the light novels. Umibozu draws them. Kadokawa started the series November 25, 2019. Thirteen volumes were out by July 2025. Volume 14 arrives October 23, two weeks into the new season. It won the 15th MF Bunko J Light Novel Rookie of the Year award. Mugiko's manga ran from May 2020 to October 2023, with spinoffs beside it. Yen Press has the English novels and manga.
Yen’s volume-one copy is still the setup. Kimihiko has always walked into murders and mysterious cases. He meets Siesta, the silver-haired detective in a secret war with an organization of pseudohumans, and becomes her assistant on a trip around the world. A year before the story opens, she dies. He goes back to a life that feels tepid, because the detective is already dead. A new case opens the wound. Season 2 is what happens when the wound stands up in a maid outfit and the assistant is shown a tape.
The five-year visual in September was a commemoration. This new one is for the premiere in two days. Noches in the center, the party around her, a line about a will that refuses to stay buried, and an episode title about seeing her again. October 7 is Wednesday. October 23 is the next novel.
