Release Dates Around The World
North America is only one stop on the film's international run. Australia gets it first, later this month (October 29th). The United States and Canada follow on November 1st, 3rd, and 4th, with Mexico getting screenings on November 3rd and 4th. The United Kingdom has showings on November 4th and 5th, and France closes out the announced dates on November 9th and 10th.
The movie runs 1 hour and 44 minutes, according to its Fandango listing. Since it is only playing on a handful of dates, fans in North America will want to lock in seats early, especially if they have a preference between the sub and the dub.
The Story Of The Yotsuba Succession Arc
The film adapts one of the most popular arcs in Tsutomu Sato's light novel series. It is set in 2096, almost a century after magic was established as real technology. Tatsuya Shiba, the "irregular" older brother with a fatal flaw in his magic, and his sister Miyuki, an honor student with unmatched talent, are about to enter the winter of their second year of high school when a letter arrives.
That letter is an invitation to the New Year's Banquet at the Yotsuba Clan's head manor, where clan head Maya Yotsuba and the heads of the branch families will name the next head of the clan. Miyuki dreads being picked, since the head of the clan is not allowed to stay single and would be expected to marry, which would mean giving up her days by Tatsuya's side. At the same time, taking the role would let her change Tatsuya's position, since he has spent years being looked down on as her Guardian. On the way to the manor, she makes her choice. "Brother... I will become the Head of the Yotsuba Clan," she says in the official synopsis, which also teases a "shocking truth" hidden between the two siblings.

From Web Novel To The Big Screen
Sato first published The Irregular at Magic High School online on Shosetsuka ni Naro from October 2008 to March 2011. ASCII Media Works then released the series in print under its Dengeki Bunko imprint from July 2011 to September 2020, with illustrations by Ishida. According to the film's official site, the franchise has passed 30 million copies in circulation worldwide as of this year.
The TV anime premiered in April 2014, followed by the original film The Girl Who Summons the Stars in June 2017, the second season (the Visitor Arc) in October 2020, the Reminiscence Arc special in December 2021, and the third season in April 2024. Across the three seasons, the main series has 52 episodes, and the spin-off The Honor at Magic High School also got its own 13-episode anime in July 2021. Crunchyroll streams the TV anime.
The Yotsuba Succession Arc movie opened in Japan back in May (May 8th), and it is not the end of the story on screen. The official Japanese site announced in June that production has started on the second part of the anime, so more of Tatsuya and Miyuki is already on the way.
