Fans of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? are getting a brand-new chapter of the story, and this time it will be told through a game. The franchise's official channels confirmed yesterday that enish is developing DanMachi: Frontier Zero, featuring an original main story created with series author Fujino Omori.
According to enish and the official DanMachi website, the story won't be found in the light novels or in the anime.
A New Story From The Creator
The announcement describes Frontier Zero's main scenario as a game-original story made with Omori's cooperation. That's a notable point for fans, since many anime-based games simply retell arcs from the source material. Omori's involvement suggests the new story should fit comfortably within the world of Orario and its dungeon.
The official anime account celebrated the news as well, describing the game as the latest entry in the franchise's game lineup. The franchise's official site notes that the light novel series has topped 20 million copies in circulation.
The game is planned for iOS, Android and PC in 2027, with release in Japan and overseas. enish hasn't revealed any gameplay, characters or a trailer yet.
That leaves a lot of open questions. The name "Frontier Zero" hints at a beginning of some kind, and the press release promises a DanMachi story nobody knows yet, but neither enish nor Omori has said when or where it takes place. It could follow Bell and the Hestia Familia, spotlight another familia, or reach further into Orario's past. Until the first trailer arrives, any guess about the setting is only that, a guess.
What is clear is that enish is settling in for a long road to launch. The developer says it will reveal new details through the game's official X account step by step as 2027 approaches, so expect drip-fed character and story reveals over the coming months.
The DanMachi Franchise Today
DanMachi began as a light novel series written by Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, published in Japan by SB Creative under its GA Bunko label. Yen Press publishes the novels in English. The story follows Bell Cranel, a young adventurer in the city of Orario, and the goddess Hestia, whose tiny familia he joins.
The anime adaptation from J.C.Staff has run since 2015. The first season premiered in April 2015, followed by Season 2 in 2019, Season 3 in 2020, Season 4 in 2022 and DanMachi V in October 2024. The franchise also includes the spin-off Sword Oratoria, which got its own anime in 2017, and the 2019 film Arrow of the Orion.
The fifth season adapted the Goddess of Fertility arc, one of the most dramatic stretches of the novels, which centers on Freya's obsession with Bell and the turmoil it causes across Orario.
Earlier this year, the franchise's 10th anniversary event, Aedes Vesta, brought the announcement of a sixth anime season, which means Frontier Zero arrives while DanMachi is still very much in the spotlight.
Previous Games
DanMachi has appeared in several games before. The mobile RPG DanMachi: Memoria Freese was the franchise's longest-running game, the console title Infinite Combate launched in 2020, and DanMachi Battle Chronicle ended service in September 2025.
That last shutdown left the series without a new mobile project for a while, which makes Frontier Zero's announcement especially welcome for fans who enjoy collecting their favorite adventurers.
Where To Follow Updates
enish has opened an official X account for Frontier Zero, where it says it will share news as development continues. The game's copyright line credits Omori, SB Creative and the DanMachi 6 production committee, tying the project closely to the current anime.
Are you more excited to see Bell's familia in a new game, or would you rather the original story focus on characters the anime hasn't explored yet?
