Game Freak's Next Game Is A Weather-Linked Magical Girl Laundry App

Game Freak just announced a phone game about laundry and sunshine. Ame nochi Hare Onna lands on iOS and Android in Japan this winter as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases. The official genre line is laundry game. The slogan is "Tomorrow's weather will become magic."

Shigeru Ohmori is director and producer. That is the long-running Pokemon series director and Pokemon Pokopia senior director. Scenario director is Katsunori Suginaka. Development is a joint job with CHRONOGATE. Japan only, Japanese only, at announcement. No Western store page or news for Western fans.

Real weather across Japan feeds the client. Forecasts change the day. Ohmori said the idea started from the loop of doing laundry and checking the sky. You patrol a modern Japanese city, fight sentient trash in turn-based battles, then wash clothes. Outlets that watched the September 14 livestream said laundry ties into hit points. Bad weather makes the wash harder. Clearing the monsters that wreck the forecast is how you get a usable line.

The cast is full of magical girls called Hare-onna and partners called Kumorin. Himawari Harewatari, voiced by Hiyori Kono and designed by Aki Minamino, turns weather into power to lift people's moods. Her partner Pon Arai is a tanuki-type Kumorin voiced by Yuki Nagano. Yuri Amanohara and kitsune partner Kon Oribe, plus Izu Shinotsuki and mouse-type Chuchu Yumekawa, fill the rest of the first poster. Ken Sugimori designed Machine Sentakki, a mysterious truck that lends the girls power.

Game Freak has not only worked on Pokemon recently. Beast of Reincarnation shipped August 4 on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Steam. This app is the other side of the 2026 slate: a free Japanese daily loop instead of a boxed action game. The company also booked a Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth for Hare Onna starting September 17 at Makuhari Messe. The Pokemon series is not part of that booth.

A first "Hare Onna Club Meeting" stream already ran September 14 with Ohmori, Suginaka, and the voice cast. Weathernews is in the collaboration mix for that broadcast side. Official channels are a dedicated YouTube and hare-onna.jp.

What we don't know about the game yet is: combat depth, gacha structure, how hard the weather API leans on location, and whether a typhoon week bricks the laundry loop. Free-to-play with purchases is the only monetization line in the press sheet. Pay-to-win talk can wait until the shop is visible.

If you wanted another Ohmori Pokemon, this is not that. If you wanted Game Freak to make something small and strange on phones, this is a weather app with magical girls and a Sugimori truck. Winter 2026 in Japan is the window.

Are you downloading a laundry RPG because Game Freak made it, or waiting to see if the weather hook survives a real rainy week? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
