SEGA and Atlus have unveiled a fresh trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Packed with action, the latest trailer is focused primarily on the new "Canon of Vengeance" storyline and offers glimpses of new dungeons, demons, and more.
Described as the "definitive version" of the critically acclaimed role-playing game from 2021, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance expands upon the original game with a brand-new storyline featuring new locations, demons, and decision-making opportunities.
At the beginning of the game, players can choose between two narrative paths: the original story, the "Canon of Creation," or the brand-new route, "Canon of Vengeance," a "dramatic tale of revenge by the fallen."
As detailed by Atlas, "Canon of Vengeance" centers around "new characters and an enigmatic cohort of demons, the Qadištu, who plot their own dark designs apart from the war of those who fight to maintain order and those who seek to defy it."
Alternatively, players can explore the "Canon of Creation," the original story told in Shin Megami Tensei V about the "eternal conflict between angels and demons, in which the protagonist fights for the world's fate."
The game's synopsis reads:
When a grisly murder scene in modern-day Tokyo blocks our protagonist’s walk home, an unplanned detour leaves him buried and unconscious. He awakens in a new Tokyo, a wasteland ravaged by apocalypse now called Da’at… but before bloodthirsty demons can claim his life, a savior emerges, and the two of them unite to become a mighty being, neither human nor demon: a Nahobino.
With newfound power, the protagonist ventures through Da'at, an enigmatic realm filled with mythical deities and demonic tyrants in constant conflict for survival. Searching for answers, the protagonist must forge his own path in a battle between angels and demons to dictate the fate of the world.
In addition to the new stories, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance improves upon the game's original battle system, demon fusion, and exploration.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows and Steam. Atlas notes that the game has been "fully evolved with stunning visuals tailored to modern consoles and new areas, demons and music to support an improved battle system, providing a smoother and richer RPG set amidst a war between demons and angels."
After pushing up the release date by one week, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will now be released on June 14, 2024. The game is currently available for pre-order.
