OOC: The Playable Anime is getting into the Halloween spirit. The interactive anime story app, whose name is short for Out Of Character, has kicked off a seasonal event that gives the whole app a spooky makeover, doubles the daily Credits players can claim and adds a new Home screen section built entirely around Halloween stories.

The event comes from Wrtn Technologies, the South Korean company behind OOC, and it rolls out in stages between now and early November, so there is a reason to keep checking in well past the holiday itself.

A Spooky New Look For The App

The most visible change is the Halloween theme. After updating the app, players will see spooky versions of the navigation tabs, a seasonal app icon and a new launch screen. The look is set to stay in place until November 7 at 11:59 p.m. PT, so it will hang around for a full week after Halloween.

It is a small touch, but it suits an app built around anime characters, plenty of whom already lean into the dark and the supernatural. Horror sits alongside sci-fi, isekai, romance, comedy and fantasy as one of the main genres in OOC's library, which makes October a natural time for a themed event.

Double Credits For Daily Check-Ins

Credits are the currency that powers conversations in OOC, and the event doubles what players can collect each day. Instead of the usual 300 Credits, the Claim Free Credits tab now hands out 600 Credits per daily check-in. According to OOC's official notice, the bonus runs through October 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Checking in every day of the window adds up to 1,800 extra Credits compared with a normal week, which goes a long way for anyone planning to start a few new stories over the holiday.

Trick Or Chat Puts Halloween Stories Up Front

The event also adds a new section to the Home screen called Trick or Chat. It sits between the OOC Originals row and the Trending Now row, and it gathers Halloween-themed stories in one place.

Creators on the platform can get their own work into the section by adding the Halloween hashtag to their stories. That opens the door for user-made ghost stories, haunted school settings, vampire romances and monster hunts to sit right next to the official content, and it gives smaller creators a better shot at being discovered during one of the busiest weeks of the year for spooky fiction.

Free Responses For OOC Originals

OOC is also giving players a reason to meet characters they have skipped so far. Promotional material for the event says that from October 29 to November 8, players will get 7 free responses with each eligible OOC Original they had not interacted with before October 25.

OOC Originals are the stories and characters created by the OOC team itself. The company says the app now has 409 of them, alongside more than 52,000 stories and more than 58,000 characters across the platform. With that much to choose from, a handful of free messages per Original is an easy way to test a few new characters before spending any Credits.

How OOC Works

For anyone new to the app, OOC: The Playable Anime lets users step into anime-style stories and talk directly with the characters, steering the plot through their own messages. Players can jump into ready-made scenarios, create their own characters or build full stories for others to play.

One of its headline features is Deep Memory, which is designed to help characters remember earlier parts of a conversation so long-running stories stay consistent. That matters for the slow-burn romances and multi-chapter isekai adventures that tend to do well on the platform, where a character forgetting a key moment can break the experience.

The anime presentation is the main draw. Characters are drawn in the bright, expressive style fans know from TV anime and light novel covers, and many of the most popular stories borrow familiar setups such as being summoned to another world, transferring into a mysterious academy or getting stuck in a dungeon with a rival. A Halloween week gives creators an excuse to twist those setups into something a little creepier.

Event Dates At A Glance

  • Halloween app theme: now through November 7, 11:59 p.m. PT
  • Double daily check-in (600 Credits): now through October 30, 11:59 p.m. PT
  • Trick or Chat Home section: available now
  • 7 free responses per eligible OOC Original: October 29 to November 8

Players who want the full seasonal look should make sure the app is updated, since the new tabs, icon and launch screen arrive with the latest version.

Are you diving into the Halloween stories in Trick or Chat, or saving your doubled Credits for the characters you already love?
