Akane Shimizu's Cells at Work! series has been a huge hit since its debut in 2014 in the pages of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius. What has made the series so special is the idea of anthropomorphized bodily functions that help teach how the body operates and the level of story and character that makes the viewer or reader care about these blood cells and other parts of the body.
Due to the manga's success, the series was later greenlit for an anime that released its first season back in 2018. Since then, the series has had multiple anime and manga spin-offs that further the lore of the franchise and give unique perspectives on the different parts of the body and stages of life.
With the first season being such a hit, a second was quickly greenlit, and now a brand new promo for the series has been released. Cells at Work!! (now with two exclamation points for the new season) has confirmed the show's opening theme, in the new promo, with the song "Fight!!" by the duo ClariS. The video also announced its January 9th premiere date!
There is still a lot left to uncover once the show releases, but there is only a little over a month to wait before new episodes release until then. We would love to hear your thoughts on the news and new primo in the comments below!
The story follows the world of a human's body which is represented as cities with roughly 37.2 trillion anthropomorphic cells who work together endlessly daily to run their world. Everyday, they struggle to remove and resist against pathogenic cells such as germs and bacteria from invading the body.
Cells at Work!! will release in Japan on January 9th!
