King's Proposal is getting an anime. The adaptation of Koushi Tachibana's fantasy light novel series was announced yesterday with a 2027 broadcast window, a teaser visual of the strongest witch Saika Kuozaki, and its first cast member: Rie Takahashi as Saika.
The reveal came during Kadokawa's Fantasia Bunko Grand Thanksgiving Festival 2026 online event, which also brought big news for Tachibana's other series, Date A Live. The new official X account opened with Saika's line from the visual: "Swear your allegiance to me, and I shall make you my bride." Check out the announcement down below:
Rie Takahashi Leads As Saika Kuozaki
Takahashi is one of the busiest voice actors in the industry, with roles like Emilia in Re:ZERO, Megumin in KonoSuba, and Marin Kitagawa in My Dress-Up Darling. Saika gives her a very different kind of character to play, since she is an overwhelmingly powerful witch who carries herself with total confidence.
Aniplex released a cast comment video from Takahashi to go with the announcement, which you can watch here:
The official site lists the original story by Tachibana and original illustrations by Tsunako, with more staff and cast marked as coming soon. The animation studio, director, and the rest of the cast have not been revealed yet, and no streaming partner has been named.
What King's Proposal Is About
The official site describes a world that faces destruction about once every 300 hours. Each time, mages quietly save it by defeating the "destruction factors" behind the threat, and most people never learn how close they came to the end. Saika Kuozaki is the strongest of these mages and the head of the academy that trains them.
The story follows Mushiki Kuga, an ordinary boy who stumbles into a battle and finds Saika mortally wounded. To keep her power and her existence from disappearing, Saika merges with him, and Mushiki ends up living as Saika herself. He has to hide the truth, keep the world from ending, and deal with the fact that he has fallen for the very woman he is now pretending to be. It is a strange romantic setup even by light novel standards, and that oddness is a big part of the series' charm.
The Date A Live Team Reunites
The anime will bring a lot of fans back to a familiar pairing. Tachibana and Tsunako are the author and illustrator behind Date A Live, one of Fantasia Bunko's biggest hits of the last 15 years. That series got five TV anime seasons and several films, and it is getting a new theatrical film, Date A Live F Last Date, in March 2027.
King's Proposal began in 2021 under Kadokawa's Fantasia Bunko label, and it carries over a lot of what made Date A Live popular: high-stakes magic battles, a quick-witted romantic comedy streak, and a cast of powerful women surrounding a male lead stuck in an impossible situation. Yen Press publishes the light novels in English, so anyone who wants to read ahead has an easy way in.
With Date A Live reaching its finale on the big screen and King's Proposal heading to TV in the same year, 2027 is shaping up to be a big year for Tachibana's work in anime. The next step will be finding out which studio is handling the adaptation, and who is cast as Mushiki.
