The Pokemon Compnay International unveiled this week the next expansion coming to Pokemon Trading Card Game. Sword & Shield - Lost Origin is set to arrive on September 9, 2022, and is sure to shake up the current metagame.

That's because The Lost Zone gameplay mechanic will be making its Sword & Shield Series debut. For those unfamiliar, the lost Zone effectively acts as a secondary discard pile. Cards that are placed in the Lost Zone can not be recovered like they would be from the normal discard pile during gameplay. However, there are cards with certain abilities that are made more powerful based on the number of cards that you have in the Lost Zone and can effectively turn the tide of battle.

Sword & Shield - Lost Origin is based on the recently released Nintendo Switch game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus. As such, it will feature more Hisuian Pokemon, including Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR and Hisuian Goodra VSTAR, as well as Radiant Pokémon such as Radiant Gardevoir.

Lost Zone cards such as Giratina VSTAR will feature a shadowy aura emanating from the artwork, while Radiant Pokemon will feature Shiny Pokemon illustrated in etched artwork. These Radian Pokemon tend to have a powerful ability or attack.

Check out the details of the upcoming Sword & Shield - Lost Origin expansion below:

  • Three new Radiant Pokémon
  • Six Pokémon VSTAR
  • 14 Pokémon V and one Pokémon VMAX
  • 30 cards with artwork featuring fan-favorite Trainers and Pokémon in the Trainer Gallery subset

The Sword & Shield - Lost Origin expansion for Pokemon Trading Card Game is set to arrive on September 9, 2022 and will be available at participating retailers worldwide. You can find these new cards in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections.

The Sword & Shield - Lost Origin Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box is now available for pre-order exclusively at Pokemon Center in the U.S., Canada, and UK. It comes with exclusive accessories — a collector's pin and metallic coin — plus 10 booster packs, which is two more than the standard Elite Trainer Box. Here's what is included;

  • 10 Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield—Lost Origin booster packs
    • Each booster pack contains 10 cards and either 1 basic Energy or 1 VSTAR marker. Cards vary by pack.
  • A special collector’s pin featuring Giratina
