Spirited Away is returning to theaters for a short time from October 30 to November 2 thanks to GKIDS and Fathom Events during the Studio Ghibli Fest 2022. Spirited Away was first shown in theaters in 2001. It is a Japanese animated fantasy film and was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, with animation by Studio Ghibli.

Spirited Away tells the story of a young girl named Chihiro Ogino. As she and her family are moving into a new neighborhood, they enter a world of Japanese spirit folklore. She discovers too late that her parents have been transformed into pigs by the witch, Yubaba, and she is trapped and no longer able to cross the flooded riverbed before sunset. Chihiro ends up taking employment by working in the witch's bathhouse as she figues out a way to free her family and then return to the human world.

At the bathhouse, she meets a boy named Haku who becomes her friend. Yubaba changes Chihiro's name to Sen and she quickly realizes that she had already forgotten her real name. Haku tells her that Yubaba controls people by taking their names, and that she will never be able to leave the spirit world if she forgets her name like he has.

Sen doesn't get along with her coworkers and only a few care of them actually care about her. Her first customer is a "stink spirit" who turns out to be the spirit of a polluted river. He pays Sen with a magic dumpling that makes people vomit. She mistakenly admits in a quiet creature named No-Face, who imitates the stink spirit's gold and lures one of her coworkers into him and then swallows them up.

Sen observes a paper Shikigami attack her friend, Haku's dragon form. She follows Haku upstairs after he crashes into Yubaba's apartment and is gravely wounded. This shikigami transforms into Zeniba, Yubaba's twin sister.  Zeniba warns Sen that Haku stole her magic golden seal, which is cursed and could kill her. Sen shares a part of the vomit dumpling with Haku and he vomits up the seal. She gives the golden seal back to Zeniba and apologizes for Haku.

Zeniba gives Sen a magic hairband and informs her that Sen's love for Haku erased her curse and all of her memories are returned.  Will  Sen choose her parents correctly out a group of pigs at the bathhouse in order to break their curse?
