Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix on Tuesday (October 20th). The new season is a 10-episode standalone series with a new story and a new cast, and it is once again being animated by TRIGGER in partnership with CD PROJEKT RED. It streams exclusively on Netflix.
The official Edgerunners account is counting down the final days, and on Saturday (October 17th) it promised that the season "will make you laugh one minute and emotionally destroy you the next." Anyone who watched the first season knows that is not an empty threat. Check it out below:
That panel takes place at MCM London on Saturday (October 24th) at 1:15 PM BST, a few days after the premiere, with story writer Bartosz Sztybor and Saya Elder talking about how the show handles its emotional moments.
The Story: King, D, And A City That Forgot Film
The official Edgerunners account summed the season up earlier this week with a simple line: "You can't outrun your mind." The new season follows Weak, a washed-up cyberpunk legend once known as King, who is now forced to live without chrome. Alongside him is D, a Snake Nation nomad and netrunner hunting the killer who wiped out his clan. According to the official site, the season is about family, obsession, and legacy, which sounds about right for a show set in Night City.
The rest of the main cast:
- Roman Carax, a young cinephile trying to document the truth in a city that gave up on film for braindance.
- Talia, who was raised in the corpo towers but hardened in Maelstrom.
- Avida, a former jazz singer, Weak's old flame, the wife of a Kang Tao executive, and Talia's mother.
- Sal, the owner of Braindance Paradise.
- Kitano from Arasaka and Richard from Kang Tao.
- Meshuga, Miguel, and Emily, the members of King's old team.

Following Up On David And Lucy
The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and became one of the biggest anime surprises of that year. David Martinez and Lucy's story was a gut punch, and the show sent a huge wave of players back into Cyberpunk 2077. For a while it felt like everyone online was quoting it.
Going with an entirely new cast instead of continuing David's story is a big swing. It also makes sense. The first season ended in a way that did not leave much room for a direct sequel, and Night City has more than enough stories to go around. Season 2 keeps the setting, the corporations, and the TRIGGER energy, and builds something new on top of it.
TRIGGER has stayed busy since the first season, with work like Delicious in Dungeon adding to a list that already included Little Witch Academia and Promare. Edgerunners remains one of its most watched projects, so expectations are about as high as they get.
Netflix has not said much yet about how the season ties back to the game or the first show, beyond keeping it set in the same Night City. The Maelstrom, Arasaka, and Kang Tao connections in the character list already tie it straight into the factions players know from the game. The fact that Roman is a filmmaker in a city obsessed with braindance is also a neat angle for an anime, since it puts a camera at the center of a story about what is real and what is recorded.
