The end of the road is getting closer for Date A Live. The official account for the franchise has announced a special new information broadcast for Date A Live F Last Date, the all-new anime that adapts the final chapter of Shido Itsuka and Tohka Yatogami's story. The stream is set for this Sunday (October 25th) and will feature four of the main cast members.
The announcement went up on the official Date A Live X account yesterday (October 20th), along with a new visual of Tohka in a wedding dress holding a bouquet, which feels like a very deliberate image for a project billed as the last date.
What To Expect From The Fantasia Bunko Stream
The broadcast is part of the Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai 2026, an online event from Kadokawa's light novel label that will stream free on the KADOKAWA Anime YouTube channel. Date A Live is leading off the show, with its segment scheduled to start around 6:00 PM Japan time, right after a short opening at 5:50 PM.
Nobunaga Shimazaki (Shido Itsuka), Marina Inoue (Tohka Yatogami), Iori Nomizu (Yoshino), and Asami Sanada (Kurumi Tokisaki) will appear on the program, with Sayuri Matsui hosting. Kadokawa has promised the latest news on Date A Live F Last Date, though it has not said exactly what will be revealed. A new trailer, more visuals, or details about how the project will be released would all make sense at this stage.
The rest of the event covers other Fantasia Bunko titles, including Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World, the second season of I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too, which is set to premiere in January 2027, and King's Proposal, which comes from the same creative duo behind Date A Live.
Date A Live F Last Date Heads To Theaters Next Spring
Date A Live F Last Date was first announced back in April (April 10th) with a teaser trailer, a key visual, and the return of the franchise's core voice cast. The KADOKAWA Animation official site has since listed the project with a Japanese theatrical release starting March 26th, 2027.
The new anime is being directed by Junji Nishimura (Extreme Hearts, Mechanical Marie) at studio Fugaku. It is based on the original light novels written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, which were published under Kadokawa's Fantasia Bunko label.
Along with Shimazaki, Inoue, Nomizu, and Sanada, the returning cast includes Misuzu Togashi as Origami Tobiichi, Ayana Taketatsu as Kotori Itsuka, Maaya Uchida as Kaguya Yamai, Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Yuzuru Yamai, Minori Chihara as Miku Izayoi, Ayumi Mano as Natsumi, Hitomi Nabatame as Nia Honjo, Akari Kageyama as Mukuro Hoshimiya, and Aya Endo as Mio Takamiya.
The Story Of The Final Date
The official synopsis picks up after the events fans saw in Date A Live V. Shido and the spirits he saved have finally defeated Isaac, the founder of DEM, and Mio Takamiya, the First Spirit who created both Shido and the spirits, has left the world. With the long war between spirits and humanity over, Shido and the girls are finally living the peaceful, if hectic, life they always wanted.
That peace does not last. Signs of trouble appear in Raziel, the all-knowing angel, and the truth of the world written in its pages kicks off what the official site calls Shido and Tohka's final chapter. The project's tagline translates to "Now, let us begin our last war (date)."
The official introduction also leans into the franchise's long history, noting that Date A Live has grown into a 15-year project with five anime adaptations and a theatrical film, and that this new work is meant to fill in the one piece left in Shido's world.
New Date A Live V Art Is Also Making The Rounds
Fans have also been sharing a set of new illustrations this week, but those are not from F Last Date. The artwork was made for a Date A Live V pop-up corner at the Kotobukiya Akihabara store, which runs from today (October 21st) through October 30th. The new art shows Tohka, Kurumi, and other spirits in a playful bath-time theme, and organizers have already announced per-customer purchase limits on the merchandise.
A Long Journey For The Franchise
Tachibana and Tsunako's light novel series ran from 2011 to 2020 across 22 main volumes. The first TV anime season premiered in 2013, followed by a second season in 2014, the film Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment in 2015, a third season in 2019, and a fourth in 2022. Date A Live V premiered in April 2024, and Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired along with an English dub. No international release plans have been announced for F Last Date yet, so English-speaking fans will have to keep an eye out for news from Crunchyroll or another licensor.
