I Lost My Adventurer's License, but It's Fine Because I Have an Adorable Daughter Now finally has its voices and a premiere window. The official website for the TV anime revealed the first teaser video, a teaser visual, the main cast, and the staff on October 15, and confirmed that the show will debut in January 2027. Hiroki Yasumoto and Yuka Iguchi lead the cast as Douglas and Rabi, and Studio Palette is animating the series.
The teaser gives fans their first look at the father and daughter duo in motion. Check it out below:
A Washed-Up Legend And A Cursed Little Girl
The story follows Douglas, who was once a legend known as the strongest mage around. Now that he has reached the age where people call him an old man, his body has worn down and his adventurer's license gets revoked. Left to drift from place to place, Douglas meets Rabi, a cursed girl with no one to look after her, and decides to keep traveling with her. Together they take on tough quests, help out the people they meet along the way, and share plenty of good food, growing closer as they go until they feel like a real father and daughter.
Square Enix's Manga UP! Global, which publishes the manga in English, describes the story like this:
Douglas, once known as a legendary enhancement spellcaster, is now little more than your average, weak old man. On top of that, he was kicked out of the hero party, and eventually had his adventurer's license revoked... And that's how he ended up a vagabond, wandering aimlessly. After an encounter with Rabi, a cursed little girl, a new adventure begins...
Meet Douglas And Rabi
Hiroki Yasumoto, known for playing Hozuki in Hozuki's Coolheadedness and Shingo Kinjo in Yowamushi Pedal, voices Douglas. The official character profile describes Douglas as a former top mage who struggles with his age and failing body and gets kicked out of the hero party. He watches over Rabi, the girl he saved while wandering, as if she were his own beloved daughter. In his comment on the casting, Yasumoto said, "A man's growth as a person after hitting rock bottom. If that were all there was to it, there would be as many stories like it as there are stars in the sky. On top of that, this work has his journey alongside a beloved presence he met through a strange twist of fate, his resignation toward people and his struggle to refuse to give up on them, and many other highlights. And above all, it's healing too."
Yuka Iguchi, the voice of Index in A Certain Magical Index and Myne in Ascendance of a Bookworm, plays Rabi. Rabi is the girl Douglas meets on his journey, and while she is kind and adorable, her past is wrapped in mystery. She looks up to Douglas like a father. Iguchi clearly loves the character, saying, "Rabi-chan is truly, truly, truly a kind, earnest, honest, and cute girl!!! Please watch over Rabi-chan as she meets the story's protagonist Douglas and grows little by little! The father-daughter bond between Douglas and Rabi and the way they interact is so heartwarming. It's just so healing."
The Staff Behind The Anime
Yuki Inaba is directing the anime at Studio Palette, and is also handling series composition and writing the scripts. Inaba previously worked on Horror Collector and KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World. Kaori Yoshikawa, who also worked on Horror Collector and KamiKatsu, is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director, adapting the original character designs by Fuzichoco.

The anime was first announced on January 4 during the GA FES 2026 livestream, which also revealed the anime's logo and a teaser visual of Douglas and Rabi in the morning sun. At the time, original author Manimani Ononata shared, "I never imagined that a day like this would come. When I first started writing, it was a small story, but now that it's reaching so many people like this, my heart is full." Fuzichoco also celebrated the news, writing, "I can't wait to be healed by a Rabi who moves and talks! And of course I'm looking forward to seeing Douglas in action too...!"
From Web Novel To Manga
Ononata first launched the story on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in 2017. SB Creative's GA Novel imprint began publishing it as a light novel series in August 2018, with illustrations by Fuzichoco, and the series has released four volumes, the most recent in October 2022.
The manga adaptation has actually gone much further. Drawn by Fumi Tadaura with composition by Itsuki Watanabe, it launched on Square Enix's Manga UP! service in November 2018, and its 14th volume released on June 5, 2026. In English, the manga is available through Comikey and Manga UP! Global.
The official X account (@BokenshaLicense) is also celebrating the cast reveal with a follow and repost campaign. Three winners will receive a shikishi board autographed by Yasumoto, with entries open until October 22 at 5:59 p.m. Japan time, though prizes only ship within Japan. Broadcast stations and streaming platforms, including any plans for international streaming, have not been announced yet.
