The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 landed in North American theaters last month, including IMAX screenings, and it continues to do well globally, especially at the Japanese Box Office. Crunchyroll has announced that the prequel Jujutsu Kaisen film has overtaken Disney's Frozen 2 and its 18th spot on the Japanese box office all-time chart earlier this week. It's also on track to overtake Princess Mononoke's soon.
To date, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has earned over 13.42 billion yen ($117.84 million US) with almost 10 million tickets sold. The popular prequel anime film has moved to 18th on the all-time Japanese domestic charts and is not only on track to surpass Princess Mononoke, but also other popular US films including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Armageddon, and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. All of which earned more than 13 billion yen at the Japanese box office.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has done well internationally as well, earning over $168 million US, with North American ticket sales making up more than $33 million of the total. It's kept its position at 8th place, just ahead of the juggernaut Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Crunchyroll streamed the first season of the popular superantural Jujutsu Kaisen anime as it aired in Japan. It also released English dubs for the series. Crunchyroll released the prequel anime film Jujutsu Kaisen on March 19th, with more territories following in March and April.
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will premiere on Japanese television next year (2023) and MAPPA has been confirmed to be returning as the studio responsible for animating the much anticipated second season. A premiere date has yet to be officially announced.
The Jujutsu Kaisen anime series is based upon the best-selling manga of the same name. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and has sold more than 60 million copies in Japan. VIZ Media publishes the series in the United States. Jujutsu Kaisen was named "Anime of the Year" by the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021.
