Production I.G.'s anime series adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 has proven to be as popular as the manga itself. And with Episode 4 right around the corner, the production studio has shared some new stills in anticipation, as well as the synopsis for the upcoming episode.
Titled "Fortitude 9.8," the official description for Episode 4 of Kaiju No. 8 reads:
"Kafka, who was shown the difference in his ability early in the exam, stands up again with the help of Reno, but thanks to Kikoru's efforts, the final examination ends in the blink of an eye. The test takers were simply overwhelmed by Kikoru's tremendous fighting power. Meanwhile, a mysterious monster suddenly appears in the exam hall. Due to an unexpected situation, the venue falls into chaos."
Production I.G. also shared five stills from the episode, setting the tone for what is sure to be another action-packed week.
Meanwhile, over on the Kaiju No. 8 website, two new cast members were revealed. Tessho Genda (Kurt in Saga of Tanya the Evil) is voicing Isao Shinomiya, the Director General of the Defense Force and Kikoru's father. Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) is voicing Tae Nakanoshima, Third Division Platoon Leader.
Fans can currently stream the first three episodes of the Kaiju No. 8 anime on Crunchyroll. The series is based on the hit manga by Naoya Matsumoto. The synopsis reads:
In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno's determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka's promise to join Mina and protect humanity.
Episode 4 will debut this Saturday, May 4th in Japan. Crunchyroll will continue to stream a subbed and dubbed version in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent at the same time it broadcasts in Japan. Subbed episodes release at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET, followed by dubbed episodes at 8:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. ET.
Kaiju No. 8 is directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya at studio Production I.G., with series composition by Ichiro Okouchi (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury), character designs by Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto) and music by Yuta Bando (BELLE).
The original Kaiju No. 8 manga is serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ digital manga magazine, while an English version is available from Viz Media.
