Magical Explorer posted a Nanami character trailer, one day before the show starts. M.A.O voices her. The official line calls her a dungeon-born maid-type knight unit, sworn to Kosuke, fighting with a bow. Japan airs the series from October 3 at midnight. Crunchyroll simulcasts it in the fall lineup.
The Japanese promo gives us specific about where she comes from. Nanami was born in the deepest part of a dungeon. She is a maid-type knight unit, not a classmate who picked up a weapon. She pledges absolute loyalty to her contractor, Kosuke, and backs him with high combat ability built around the bow.
She is the latest in a run of character videos. Kosuke Takioto got his on September 12 at the Aniplex One Focus event. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices him. The site calls him a "friend character" in the legendary bishojo game Magical Explorer, a Japanese guy who loves eroge and is using that past-life knowledge inside the game. He fights by enchanting the stole he always wears, and the copy flags an unusual amount of magic power. Ludie's trailer landed September 18, with Ai Kakuma in the role. Yukine Mizumori's trailer was September 25. Saori Onishi is on the cast sheet for her. Nanami is the Friday drop, close enough to air that it is a premiere-eve clip rather than a summer tease.
The rest of the announced cast fills the school and the party. Marino Hanamura is Mai Fuchigami. Hatsumi Hanamura is Minami Tsuda. Claris is Risa Tsumugi. Iori Hijiri is Asaki Yui. Rina Kato is Hikaru Tono. That is a visual-novel party sheet: heroines with full names, plus the dungeon unit who does not have a family name on the trailer card.
Iris started the light novels on Shosetsuka ni Naro in February 2018. Kadokawa prints them under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko, illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki, with 13 volumes out. Yen Press has the English novels and the manga, drawn by Yukari Higa. Yen Press explains the story as: Magical Explorer is a revered erotic game inside the story, and the protagonist is the side character who knows the routes because he played them. The anime is the TV version of that premise. October 3 will show how much of the eroge framing survives a broadcast slot.
WHITE FOX is animating it. Kazuki Ohashi directs, with Shadows House on the resume. Satoko Sekine (Mysteria Friends) is series composition. Ryosuke Kimiya (Grimoire of Zero) designs the characters. Kenichiro Suehiro writes the music. An August trailer already set the October 3 date, a key visual, more cast, and the theme songs. Friday's video does not replace that. It is the Nanami cut of a campaign that has been introducing one face at a time since mid-September.
The loop the novels sell is the friend-character problem. In the game, Kosuke walks around a world whose flags he already knows, with a stolen weapon and a maid-knight who spawned at the bottom of a dungeon and treats their contract as absolute. Ludie and Yukine are the heroine trailers.
Broadcast is Saturday, October 3, 24:00 Japan time, which is the usual late-night slot that reads as Sunday on a calendar. Crunchyroll's stream starts the same day. No episode count landed with the Nanami video. Thirteen print volumes is a lot of route for one cour, so the first episode is the test of which girl the show opens on and whether the dungeon unit shows up before the school does.
