Bandai Namco's role-playing game One Piece Odyssey finally has a release date for the Nintendo Switch: July 26, 2024.
The game was originally released on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in January 2023. Now it will finally come to Nintendo's hybrid console.
Developed to commemorate ONE PIECE's 25th Anniversary, One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based role-playing game in which players take control of Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates. The game combines staples of the JRPG genre with the unique elements of ONE PIECE.
One Piece Odyssey was developed by ILCA with involvement from Eiichiro Oda, the author of ONE PIECE. Oda helped with the creation of new characters and monster designs as well as with the main plot.
During their voyage along the Grand Line, Captain Monkey.D.Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew are caught in a sudden storm at sea. When the storm subsides, they find themselves stranded on a lush, but mysterious island called Waford, becoming separated from each other in the process. The crew sets out on a new, daring adventure filled with marvels of nature, powerful enemies, and strange encounters with island locals.
You'll notice that the trailer features only Japanese dialogue. The characters in the game are voiced by the series' original Japanese VO actors, helping create an authentic adaptation of the anime. A love letter to the anime, the game retains much of the same charm, humor and chemistry, along with a colorful artistic style.
In addition to Oda's involvement, the game's soundtrack is scored by composer Motoi Sakuraba, who has also contributed to games in the Dark Souls and Tales Of series.
One Piece Odyssey is arriving on the Nintendo Switch as a Deluxe Edition. This means the "Reunion of Memories Additional Scenario" will be available for those who clear the main game's story.
"Through these new quests and the main game, revive the most iconic moments of One Piece and meet again with characters such as Ace, Lucci, Mihawk, Eneru, and Whitebeard in the world of their memories," Bandai Namco teases.
In addition to the extra quests, the Deluxe Edition will include the Traveling outfits for the Straw Hats Crew, the Sniper King’s Traveling Outfit, and the Nintendo Switch-exclusive City of Water outfits.
The One Piece anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix. The latter service just released a live-action series adaptation of the hit manga/anime which received glowing reviews!
