Iñaki Godoy's Monkey D. Luffy takes center stage in the latest trailer for Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation. Netflix's take on Eiichiro Oda's best-selling shonen manga series drops on August 31.

In the first teaser trailer, we didn't get much interaction between the Straw Hats but the full cast is on display in the trailer above. For the most part, it looks as if all the actors have nailed the basic characteristics of the beloved pirate crew.

Netflix's live-action adaptation stars:

  • Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy,
  • Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro,
  • Emily Rudd as Nami,
  • Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp,
  • Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Other cast members include Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Vincent Regan as Garp and Peter Gadiot as Shanks.

The series is produced by Tomorrow Studios alongside the manga's publisher,  Shueisha. Of the eight episodes that comprise the first season,  Matt Owens and Steven Maeda penned three, respectively.

Marc Jobst directed the first two episodes, titled Romance Dawn and The Man in the Straw Hat.

The series has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Some fans are excited about the prospect of a live-action adaptation of One Piece, while others are skeptical about how the series will translate to live-action after previous misfires by Netflix on Death Note and Cowboy Bebop.

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world...
