Platinum End, the upcoming anime from Death Note creators Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba, has received an official fall release date! As announced via the official Platinum End web site, the new anime series will premiere in Japan on October 7th of this year (2021).
The Platinum End anime series has also added two new cast members! It was previously announced that Miyu Irino from Mob Psycho 100 will voice the protagonist Mirai Kakehashi and his angel assistant Nasse will be voiced by Goblin Slayer's Yui Ogura. New additions to the cast include Kaori Maeda from Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club as the deceptively cute and bubbly serial killer Mimi Yamada, and Horimiya's Shōya Chiba will voice Mizukiyo Minamikawa.
The anime is based upon the Platinum End manga, published in English by VIZ Media, which ended earlier this year. The anime series looks to adapt the entire manga in its 24 episodes.
The Platinum End manga was written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the creators of Death Note. It was first serialized in November of 2015 in Shueisha's Jump Square monthly magazine. The story follows Mirai Kakehashi, a student who attempts to end his life, but is rescued by Nasse, his guardian angel. Nasse has vowed to not only protect him, but also bestows special powers upon him as he is one of 13 candidates that has been chosen by angels to take the role of God, who is preparing to retire.
