Over the past few months, GKIDS and Shout! Factory has released Steelbook versions of each Studio Ghibli film, including classics like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky. This summer, two new adventures will available to own and add to anyone's steelbook collection.
Each steelbook in the collection features the film's title, its director, and a small piece of art directly from the movie. However, the rest of the case is bathed in a solid color that adds to a lovely spectrum when each film is collected.
The first film, The Secret World of Arrietty, will bring the hit story to countless new viewers with its stunning green steelbook case and minimalist design. Next, The Wind Rises will bring the emotional tale of a young airplane designer who struggles with life's hardships. The steelbook is featured with similar minimalist wording and art and a vibrant sky blue case.
The steelbooks are set to release in June and will be the perfect addition for any fan of Studio Ghibli and any steelbook collectors looking for a new franchise to explore. Make sure to share your thoughts on the news in the comments below!
The Wind Rises
Jiro Horikoshi is fascinated by aviation but unable to become a pilot due to a medical condition. He moves to Tokyo in 1923, surviving the Great Kanto Earthquake to become a highly accomplished airplane designer. As rumors of war escalate, Jiro reunites with Nahoko, a young woman he met during the earthquake years earlier. The two fall deeply in love, just as Nahoko falls ill with tuberculosis. Inspired by visions of Italian aeronaut Caproni, Jiro must confront mounting tragedies with dignity in this epic tale of love and perseverance.
The Secret World of Arrietty
In a secret world hidden beneath the floorboards, little people called Borrowers live out of sight of humans. But when brave and tiny Arrietty is out gathering supplies, she is discovered by Shawn, a human boy, and they begin to form a friendship that blossoms into an extraordinary adventure.
Both films will be available to purchase on June 22nd.
