With less than one week until the premiere of Suicide Squad Isekai, Warner Bros. Japan has revealed the opening animation for the highly anticipated anime series.
Featuring the song "Another World" by Tomoyasu Hotei, the opening spotlight search of the members of Amanda Waller's group of notorious criminals before diving into the connected world filled with swords, magic, orcs, and dragons. WIT Studio's Takuji Miyamoto handled the direction, storyboarding, and animation direction for the opening animation, duties he also performed for the Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade animated game opening while at MAPPA.
If this is your first time hearing about Suicide Squad Isekai, the series follows a group of notorious criminals — Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark — who are summoned at the request of Amanda Waller and sent into an otherworldly realm that's connected to this world through a gate. An "ISEKAI," it's a "world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies."
"Harley and others go on a rampage after arriving in ISEKAI but are captured by the Kingdom's soldiers and sent to prison," the synopsis reads. "They only have 72 hours before the bomb on their neck explodes. The deadline is fast approaching. After negotiations with Queen Aldora, the condition for liberation was the conquest of the hostile Imperial army. They have no choice but to throw themselves head-first into the front line of battle."
"They run; they die. They lose; they die," the synopsis continues. "With their lives on the line, can Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad survive in ISEKAI? Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure! Let the party begin!"
In addition to sharing the opening animation, Warner Bros. Japan also introduced four new cast members who are voicing the characters of Ratcatcher, Thinker, Enchantress, and Killer Croc.
Ratcatcher voiced by Yoji Ueda (Eisen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End)
Thinker voiced by Hochu Otsuka (Jiraiya in Naruto)
Enchantress voiced by Shizuka Ito (Minako Aino/Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon Crystal)
Killer Croc voiced by Taro Kiuchi (Dante in The Case Study of Vanitas)
Suicide Squad Isekai is set to debut next week in the United States. The first three episodes of the anime series will premiere on June 27, 2024. The series will stream on both Max and Hulu in the United States with new episodes released weekly. The anime will run for 10 episodes. It will debut in Japan on July 5th.
