PACIFIC RIM Sequel Reveals Title, Adds Japanese Actor Mackenyu

Mackenyu, best known for Chihayafuru and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, has joined the cast of the Pacific Rim sequel which officially began filming yesterday. The rumored title for the film has also been revealed.

Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim sequel has added Japanese actor Mackenyu (the son of legendary Japanese actor Sonny Chiba) to its cast as prodcution officially kicked off yesterday.  The actor confirmed the news via his official Twitter account.  Also via Twitter,  DeKnight also confirmed the title of the sequel as Pacific Rim Maelstrom.  




The Spartacus and Daredevil (Netflix) helmer also told his followers that filming is currently underway in Australia, with China as the next shoot location.  While Jon Spaihts and Derek Connolly are listed as screenwriters, DeKnight also confirmed that Kira Snyder, Emily Carmichael and T.S. Nowlin as having also worked on the screenplay.

John Boyega, the male lead in the film, shared an image of his script via Instagram.

The full cast for the film includes Boyega, Mackenyu, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Levi Meaden and  Adria Arjona.
