For those who don't know Higurashi When They Cry and who might be interested, it's important to know that SOTSU is the direct sequel of the previous series Higurashi When They Cry GOU which itself is the continuation of the original two seasons of Higurashi When They Cry dating back from the 2000's. So it is a fourth season and it's very important to watch the three previous installments before jumping into this one.

Higurashi When They Cry GOU was marketed as a remake early with a first episode that appeared to be a direct remake of the first episode of the classic series. From the second episode onward, it became clear that it was not a remake but the direct sequel of the classic series. Gou ended on a cliffhanger which SOTSU is the direct followup to.

Also, it is a very dark, violent, gore and disturbing series, GOU even more than the classic series, so it's not for everyone... despite having cute girls and a lot of silly fan-service. Nipah !
