As many anime fans worried, the second season of
Attack on Titan might be delayed. Back in 2014, a second season was initially reported to premiere in 2016 but there's been very little in the way of news or promotional material. Now we have a troubling update via Spanish streaming and home-video anime distributor
SelectaVisión [via Crunchyroll], who reprots that the window for a season 2 release has passed and that the earliest Attack on Titan season 2 would be released is January 2017.
Wit Studio handles production on the anime, which concluded its first season on Sept. 29, 2013. The first season covered 8.5 volumes of the manga. To date, there have been 18 volumes released, with the 19th confirmed for publishing on August 2, 2016.
Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama that began in September 2009. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans, seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world's population to staggeringly low numbers. The 3 main protagonists of Isayama's manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a "Colossal Titan" breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to thee death of Eren's mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls.
