Kou Sawada's risque sci-fi comedy Yumeneconnect is getting a television anime. Shochiku announced the adaptation on October 14 along with a teaser visual, a teaser PV, and the first two cast members, and Studio Massket is handling the animation. The official site opened the same day, and the announcement itself asks whether the show can even make it onto broadcast TV.
Check out the teaser PV below:
The teaser focuses on Nano and Yuhi. It shows Yuhi spending his days alone at school before Nano bursts into his life, along with a scene of the parasitic creature Nyoru Puppu Panpippi stretching its body out toward him. The teaser visual puts Nano and Nyoru Puppu Panpippi front and center. A broadcast window, TV stations, and a streaming partner have not been announced yet.
Cast And Staff
Yusuke Kobayashi stars as Yuhi Takamiya, a lonely high school boy who pretends to be absorbed in books so nobody notices he has no friends. Kobayashi is well known to anime fans as Subaru in Re:Zero and Senku in Dr. Stone. Yu Sasahara plays Nano, a girl from the planet Pokotsun who hears Yuhi's wish for friends and flies to Earth to sell him all kinds of ridiculous products from space.
Sota Yokote is directing the series at Studio Massket. He previously directed To Your Eternity Season 3, which Massket co-produced with Drive and which premiered in October 2025. Gigaemon Echikawa is handling series composition and writing the scripts, after working on Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden, A Galaxy Next Door, and A Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai. Yoshihiro Watanabe, whose past work includes Haganai, Overflow, and Adam's Sweet Agony, is designing the characters. Hayato Matsumura is composing the music, Lantis is in charge of music production, and SHOCHIKU anime is presenting the series.
Studio Massket is a fairly young studio. It was founded in Tokyo in March 2017 and spent years providing key animation, in-between animation, and other support work on other studios' shows. Its first TV anime as the lead studio was The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash in January 2024, followed by its work on To Your Eternity Season 3.
The Staff Already Know What Kind Of Show This Is
The cast and staff comments on the official site make it very clear what fans are in for. Yokote opened his by poking fun at the usual "watch until episode three" style of staff comment, writing "Yumeneconnect is different. Every episode is a highlight." His reason is that, by his own account, every single episode of the anime includes nudity, even the ones adapting chapters of the manga that did not. He joked that one episode gave him so much trouble on that front that he developed a temporary "neurosis" until the production committee helped him sort it out, and he added that the anime even features a running gag where the nudity itself greets viewers with a cheerful "Good morning!"
Echikawa took the opposite approach and insisted on the show's credentials. "Let me say it loud and clear. This is an anime adaptation of a legitimate shonen manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. It is absolutely not an adult anime," he wrote, before adding "And it's airing on broadcast TV, no less. ...Is this going to be okay?" He also said he wrote the scripts as if this might be his final project, with stage directions straight out of an adult novel.
Sawada shared a similar reaction. When the anime offer first came in, his first thought before he even felt happy was "Is this really going to be okay?" He said he felt the same way again after reading the scripts and storyboards, which he described as having the same level of fan service as the manga, if not more. Kobayashi's honest first reaction was "Seriously?!", and he praised animation where the staff's commitment is fully on display. Sasahara said this kind of role is a first for her and that she is having a lot of fun with it, while Watanabe admitted he jumped at the chance to work on a fan service series for the first time in a while and needed corrections from Sawada and Yokote before the character sheets came together.
The Manga So Far
The story follows Yuhi, a sickly boy who missed the first week of high school with a sudden fever and came back to find that everyone had already made friends without him. Alone in his room, he shouts "I want friends!" and Nano answers by appearing in front of him with a sales pitch for products from the Yumeneko Company. Her wares include a creature listed as the most dangerous life form in the galaxy, and every one of them makes Yuhi's school life a little more chaotic. Along the way he meets classmate Kana Shiraishi, who becomes his first friend after falling for how cute Nano and Nyoru are, and second year student Momoka Saeki, who wants his help starting an Occult Research Club.
The official site sells the series as a full sensory "SF" comedy, where SF stands for "sukebe fantasy," a Japanese play on the word for lewd. Sawada launched the manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine on September 4, 2024, as his first serialized series, and Kodansha released the first compiled volume on November 15, 2024. The 10th volume releases today, October 16, two days after the anime announcement.
