exited Godzilla 2 and it looks as Max Borenstein, the original screenwriter for the 2014 blockbuster has also departed.
Legendary's 2014 Godzilla film proved very successful for Legendary Pictures. So much so that they're potentially ruffling some feathers with their current distributor, Unviersal Pictures by re-teaming with their former distributor, Warner Bros. for a planned giant-kaiju monster universe, centered around an upcoming throw-down between King Kong and Godzilla.
The latest news is that the writing duo of Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields, who will pen a new draft of Godzilla 2 (following Gareth Edwards relinquish of the director's chair). That film currently has a release date of March 22, 2019 and will serve as the lead in to the Godzilla vs King Kong film, which is currently dated for May 29, 2020.
Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island, which re-imagines and super sizes the giant ape of film legend, will hit North American theaters on March 10, 2017. In September 2015, Legendary moved distribution of Skull Island from Universal to Legendary in order to set up the giant monster showdown.
