Castlevania fans have endured a protracted wait for a continuation of the franchise following the end of season 4 back in 2021, but it looks like Netflix is getting ready to ramp up its promotional campaign for the spin-off series, Castlevania: Nocturne. A new poster has been released and the Netflix Geeked account promises a new trailer will quickly follow.
The Netflix release date for all 8 episodes of Castlevania: Nocturne is currently set for September 28, 2023.
The new Castlevania series will star Richter Belmont, a descendant of the first animated Castlevania series' protagonists, Sypha and Trevor Belmont.
With Richter starring, it's thought that the spin-off will take its cues from the 1993 Konami video game, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and 1997's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Originally created by celebrated comic book writer Warren Ellis and the enigmatic Indian-American filmmaker Adi Shankar, both individuals are no longer associated with the television franchise.
Ellis announced he would no longer have involvement with the animated series in 2020 following several accusations of sexual misconduct.
In August 2021, Adi revealed that he was suing Netflix after being excluded from having any involvement with the spin-off. Shankar alleged that Kevin Kolde of Frederator Studios (the production company involved with season 1) used Ellis' sexual misconduct scandal to exclude him from an agreement the production company made with Netflix for the spinoff.
Kolde and British screenwriter Clive Bradley will replace Ellis and Shankar as showrunners for the franchise's continuation.
A teaser trailer for Nocturne was released back in July and new footage was also shown in Netflix's promotional trailer for all of the streamer's September releases.
