Ahead of its premiere next week, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 has received an official trailer. The hit anime from CD Projekt Red and TRIGGER is set to return on Netflix for its second season on October 20th. Building up to its release, Netflix has shared a new trailer.
If you enjoyed the first season, I’ve got some good news. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 looks every bit as chaotic and violent, this time with a new cast and a standalone story centered on revenge and redemption. We’re moving on from David and Lucy, but the trailer suggests Night City still has plenty of bloodshed and heartbreak in store.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 pulls you back into Night City, where lives become entangled to the extreme. Weak, a washed-up cyberpunk legend, is now forced to live without chrome as he searches for a sense of purpose in a world that’s passed him by. Meanwhile, the deadly nomad D sets out on a path to revenge that brings him close to corpo secrets never meant to be found. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, the hit video game from CD Projekt Red, which in turn is based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game. The series takes place in Night City, a sprawling, neon-soaked metropolis where powerful corporations rule and body modification is a way of life.
The first season centered on a love story between David Martinez, a street kid drawn into the dangerous world of mercenaries known as edgerunners, and Lucy, a mysterious netrunner who dreams of escaping Night City for a life on the Moon.
It was met with glowing reviews from critics and positive reception from general audiences. The first season received a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, with a consensus that reads: "Booting up Night City with frenetic action and awe-inspiring visual flair, Edgerunners is an exceptionally stylish anime adaptation of the world Cyberpunk established."
Despite the change in cast for Season 2, I fully expect the anime to return in full force. Studio TRIGGER, known for Little Witch Academia, Delicious in Dungeon, and Promare, is back, with Kai Ikarashi taking the director’s chair for the new season.
