Netflix has released a new English-subbed City Hunter trailer ahead of the film's release on Netflix, later this month.

The film is based on Tsukasa Hōjō's City Hunter manga, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1985 to 1991. The series has been collected into 35 volumes.

By 2016, the series has sold over 50 million volumes globally. During its serialization, it was also reported to have been distributed in an astounding 900 million copies of Weekly Shōnen Jump.

In North America, the English-language license was held by the now-defunct, Gutsoon! Entertainment, who only managed to translate and release the first 5 volumes.

Due to the manga's popularity, an anime series was produced in 1987. Asia and Europe developed sizable fan bases for this anime but City Hunter is seen as underrated in the US in comparison to its worldwide renown.

Most North American anime fans know of the series from its 1987 anime adaptation from Sunrise. The anime received 4 seasons, concluding in 1991 at 140 episodes.

Although there have been live-action adaptations of the manga in South Korea, France, Hong Kong, and other countries, this is the first City Hunter movie that was actually filmed in Shinjuku.

Ryōhei Suzuki stars as Ryō Saeba while Misato Morita portrays Kaori Makimura. Also appearing in supporting roles are Tetta Sugimoto as Akitaka Itō, Ayame Misaki as Tsukino Seta. and Takaya Sakoda as Kunio Konno.

Yuichi Sato directed the pic from a script written by Tatsuhiro Mishima (live-action Yū Yū Hakusho).
