Netflix announced today that Pacific Rim: The Black will be returning next month on April 19th, 2022, for its second and final season. They also released a brand new trailer to celebrate the announcement and it's sure to get anime and Pacific Rim fans excited for next month's premiere!
Pacific Rim: The Black's first season premiered March 4th, 2021. The anime series is based upon the Pracific Rim franchise and was developed and co-written by Greg Johnson and Craig Kyle for Netflix.
The voice cast for the Netflix anime include Calum Worthy (Stormworld), Gideon Adlon (Girl Meets World), and Erica Lindbeck (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Neon Genesis Evangelion).
The story is set in the Pacific Rim universe found in the first live-action film, but sees an alternate version of events from what was seen in the sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising. Kaiju (a race of giant monsters) have overrun the continent of Australia. While humans fight back using their gigantic armed robots (Jaegers), they fail to save the continent and abandon it.
With only isolated pockets of survivors left, teenage sibling sTaylor and Hayley Travis stumble across a long-abandoned training Jaeger - Atlas Destroyer. Hayley and Taylor are able to activate the long dormant Jaeger and set out upon a quest to find their parents who left them behind to combat the Kaiju, but never returned.
Not only must they battle the marauding Kaiju, but they also face other survivors who are left fighting for survival.
About Pacific Rim: The Black Season 2: In the epic series conclusion of Pacific Rim: The Black (S2), the journey is far from over. Our brave siblings Taylor and Hayley still hope to reach the safety of Sydney aboard Atlas Destroyer, the scaled-down training Jaeger left behind when Australia was evacuated. With teenage assassin Mei and the mysterious human/kaiju hybrid bOy joining Taylor and Hayley, this makeshift family must cross a dangerous territory controlled by the bloodthirsty cult Sisters of the Kaiju. These zealots, led by the enigmatic High Priestess, are convinced that boy is their long-awaited Messiah and will stop at nothing to indoctrinate him into their dark circle – something Hayley would sacrifice everything to prevent.
