Japanese novelist Sachiko Kashiwaba released Misaki no Mayoiga (The Abandoned House by the Cape) in 2014 where it went on to win the 54th Noma Children's Literature Award in 2016. An anime adaptation of the project from Studio David Prouction (Fire Force, Cells at Work!!) was first announced back in November 2020.

Shinya Kawatsura ( Sagrada Reset) is directing the pic based on an adapted screenplay by Reiko Yoshida (Violet Evergarden).

The anime film is part of Fuji TV’s Zutto Ōen Project 2011 + 10... which commemorates the 10th Anniversary of the  2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami which led to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.  There will be a total of three anime projects comprising the project, with each taking place in one of the areas most heavily afflicted by the tragedy- Iwate, Fukushima and Miyagi.  The film set in the Fukushima Prefecture is titled  Hula Fulla Dance while the Miyagi project is the recent Bakuten!! TV anime which began airing this January.

The film is currently slated to open in Japanese theaters on August 27.
