The official Made in Abyss site has finally revealed the premiere date for the popular anime's second season! The second season, entitled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, will premiere in Japan in July 2022. They even released a new poster to celebrate the announcement. Made in Abyss is based upon the manga of the same name, which was written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi. The anime is directed by Masayuki Kojima (Monster) and animated at studio Kinema Citrus. Scripts for the anime were written by Hideyuki Jurata and music created by Kevin Penkin (The Rising of the Shield Hero).
The first season of the anime adaaptation aired in July of 2017. It included 12 episodes and debuted to critical acclaim. It was promply followed by two compilation films in 2019, Dawn of the Deep Soul and Wandering Twilight, with a third film, Dawn of the Deep Soul, being released in 2020.
Made in Abyss follows the adventures of Riko, an orphan girl who dreams of becoming a Delver like her mother and to solve the mysteries of the "Abyss" the last unexplored place in the world that's full of strange and wonderful creatures and relics.
The Made in Abyss voice cast includes Hiroaki Hirata (One Piece), Yuka Terasaki (Kiznaiver), Mitsuki Saiga (Princess Jellyfish), Miyu Tomiata (We Never Learn: BOKUBEN), Mariya Ise (The Promised Neverland), and Shiori Izawa (The Asterisk War), with Misaki Kuno (The Seven Deadly Sins) joining the voice cast for season 2 as Faputa.
