Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? finally has a premiere date. The official X account for the TV anime announced earlier this week (October 15th) that the series begins early next year (January 7th, 2027). It will air Thursdays at 24:26, which is effectively Fridays at 12:26 a.m. JST, in the Super Animeism TURBO programming block on MBS, TBS, and their affiliates, for a total of 28 stations broadcasting it at the same time across Japan.
The date comes after a delay. The anime was originally announced for 2026, and the official site now notes that the plan changed. Here is the announcement from the official account:
The Cast Behind Chihara And Kuroki
Sayumi Suzushiro stars as Mai Chihara, a second-year high school student whose "landmine" look and hard-to-read expression have the whole school whispering that she is dangerous. The official character profile says the real Chihara is honest, friendly, and a little airheaded, and her unpredictable behavior keeps throwing Kuroki off balance. Kazuki Ura plays Kuroki, an ordinary second-year from the plain kids' group who has almost no experience talking to girls and a fairly low opinion of himself, but who is sincere and considerate. After a class shuffle lands him in the seat next to Chihara, he starts trying to figure out who she really is.
Three more names joined the cast in a recent update to the official site. Maaya Uchida plays Chinatsu Iwakura, Chihara's best friend, who loves talking about romance, picks out Chihara's clothes, and teaches her makeup and nail art. Tomokazu Sugita is Hibiya, Kuroki's friend since preschool, a tough and loud student at another school who values his friendship with Kuroki above everything. Daisuke Ono plays Kazami, another preschool friend of Kuroki's who draws every girl's attention with his bright smile, calls Kuroki "my friend," and constantly competes with Hibiya over which of them is closer to him.
The teaser PV, released on the official KING AMUSEMENT CREATIVE YouTube channel, gives a look at the show in motion:
The Staff At Synergy SP
Yasuaki Fujii is directing the anime at Synergy SP. Fujii has worked as an episode director on Teasing Master Takagi-san and Aikatsu!. Keiichiro Ochi, whose credits include Aikatsu! and The Quintessential Quintuplets, is in charge of series composition, and Majiro is designing the characters. Arisa Okehazama, one of the composers on Jujutsu Kaisen and The Apothecary Diaries, is writing the music, with King Records handling music production. Sound production is by Imagica EMS.
Chihara's Music Career Started Early
Chihara has been singing well before the anime's debut. As part of the project, Suzushiro has been releasing digital singles in character as Mai Chihara, each one a cover of a famous Vocaloid song. "Alien Alien," written by Nayutalien, came out on July 25th, followed by Mikito-P's "Ii Aru Fanclub" on August 25th and DECO*27's "Vampire" on September 25th. All three come with music videos on KING AMUSEMENT CREATIVE's channel, and fans who pre-saved the singles on Apple Music or Spotify were sent a limited special voice clip from Chihara. Chihara is also scheduled to perform at the Miyako Premium Live 2026 concert at ROHM Theatre Kyoto in December.
From GANMA! To Seven Seas
Creator Ryon launched the original manga on COMISMA's GANMA! service in June 2021. The title plays on jirai-kei, which Seven Seas Entertainment describes as a hyper-feminine, dark fashion style often associated with yandere tendencies and unstable personalities. The joke of the series is that Chihara looks the part but turns out to be a surprisingly sweet girl, if a little weird.
Ryon shared a message about the adaptation on the official site. "Every time I get to see part of the production process, I am filled with joy and surprise," the creator wrote, thanking readers and everyone involved in the anime. Ryon added a promise to keep pouring "everything I can draw" into the manga going forward.
English readers can start right now. Seven Seas licensed the manga back in January, and the first volume came out this week (October 13th) for $14.99, translated by Megan Turner, with ebook editions available as well. Seven Seas lists the anime under the English title Are You a Jirai Girl, Chihara-san? No streaming partner outside Japan has been announced yet.
Are you planning to pick up the Seven Seas manga before the anime starts, or are you waiting to meet Chihara on screen first?
