Is Lionsgate missing a golden opportunity here? A recent guest on the
Audibly Exquisite podcast, Walter Jones, who played the Black Power Ranger Zack in the original Power Rangers TV show said that he was hoping to at least cameo in the new reboot by Lionsgate, but no one ever reached out to any of the original Rangers. "It’s not likely. Unfortunately, we were not invited to be part of the film, which is confusing to me, but I’m excited about the film nevertheless."
Withe the film aiming for a much more serious tone, perhaps having an appearance by a few of the original Rangers creates too great of a callback to the show's campy roots? But with all the parents who grew up with the show now taking their kids to see the film, it would seem as if a hat tip would've been a very easy acknowledgement of the show's nearly three decade history.
Power Rangers arrives in North American theaters on March 24, 2017. The film was directed by Dean Israelite and stars Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.
