In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Power Rangers director Dean israelite touched on a number of topics including the design of the new suits and the casting of Bryan Cranston as Zordon. Said Israelite, "We’ve made the suits practically with Weta Workshop, with new cutting-edge tech." The Project Almanac director also stated that he grew up on Power Rangers and is a fan of the franchise and had all of the same questions as everyone else. "I grew up on it and I have all the same questions other people have. 'How are we going to update this? How will it exist in the contemporary superhero cinema canon?' [We're adding] naturalism and a grounded nature [to make the film] character driven."
As far as the surprising addition of Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston, Dean admits that initially, Cranston was apprehensive to join the cast. "Like everybody, [Cranston] was sceptical ut he saw a bunch of footage and got excited for the potential. I think it’ll be a thrill for fans to see what we’re doing with Zordon." During the first season of the United States' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a young Cranston voiced the Rita Repulsa monsters, Snizard and Twin Man.
