Anime fans can enjoy an early Christmas present thanks to the new Sword Art Online film coming to North American movie theaters and IMAX!

Funimation has announced that it's partnered with Aniplex of America to bring Sword Art Online the Movie - Progressive - Aria of a Starless Night to theaters and on IMAX! The brand new film based in the Sword Art Online universe, and part of the official cannon of the long-running anime series, will land in the United States and Canada on December 3, 2021 and in Australia and New Zealand on Decmber 9, 2021. Tickets will be available for pre-order on November 5th and November 9th respectively.

Sword Art Online the Movie - Progressive - Aria of a Starless Night, which is based upon the original story from Reki Kawahara (Dengeki Bunko), takes fans back to the beginning of the saga where players find themselves trapped inside the world's first VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online, and unable to leave the game. The story follows Asuna and her struggles to cope with the new realities of her virtual world and her fateful encounter with Kirito. The film also introduces us to Mito, a new and mysterious character that nobody seems to know.

The voice cast of the upcoming movie includes:
Kirito: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook (English)
Asuna: Haruka Tomatsu (Japanese); Cherami Leigh (English)
Mito: Inori Minase (Japanese)
