Filming on director Rupert Sanders' live-action Ghost in the Shell film continues on location in Hong Kong. It seems the aesthetic for the film might be a bit grittier than the sleek future of the two anime series. Perhaps the film is aiming for something closer to the tone of the more mature anime film?
While Scarlett Johansson's Motoko Kusanagi remains a controversial casting, it's hard to find fault with the first look at Pilou Asbæk'as Batou. Hopefully, we'll receive some official stills from the film now that set photos are leaking across the net. Perhaps even a full shot of the entire Section 9 team?
Ghost in the Shell is an upcoming, cyberpunk sci-fi film from Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures. Rupert Sanders directs from a script written by Jamie Moss and Jonathan Herman. Scarlett Johansson stars as Motoko Kusanagi. Pilou Asbæk plays her right-hand man, Batou. Beat Takeshi plays their boss, Lt. Col. Daisuke Aramaki. Michael Pitt will play the villain of the film, The Laughing Man.
Ghost in the Shell opens in US theaters on March 31, 2017.
